What does it mean to be Canadian?

AT HOME
·  Create a paper or electronic Summer Journal, using Photo Story or Power Point. Check out listed websites for examples and ideas about creating a journal.
·  People from different language backgrounds share their thoughts about being Canadian. Follow the link to the Toronto Star and read the article, “What it means to be Canadian.”
·  What viewpoints about being Canadian are being presented? Do you agree or disagree with these viewpoints? Explain.
·  Describe what it means to be Canadian using Canadian symbols, pictures, text and even music.
USING TECHNOLOGY
·  What do you know about Canadian geography, history and its people? Take a virtual tour of Canada’s most amazing sites at “Time For Kids” and other websites listed.
·  What did you find out about what it means to be Canadian? Record in your Summer Journal.
IN THE COMMUNITY
·  Canada Day symbols, like the Canadian flag are displayed as part of the celebrations. List other Canadian symbols that you see and find out what they mean.
·  How do Torontonians celebrate Canada Day? Make a collage with photos and captions.
·  Take part in some of the Canada Day celebrations in your community, like attending the CHIN picnic, the East York parade and midway, or the Harbour Front fireworks.
·  Take photos of the ways that you and your family and friends celebrated Canada Day. Record in your Summer Journal. / Writer’s Notebook
