These essay questions help students to generate awareness and build a general understanding of the Armenian Genocide of 1915. Students must mail and submit an electronic copy of their essay via email.

Mountain Valley Transportation Krapf Bus Award / Applications in Penn Hall / $1,500 / Due 4/7/17 / PH can nominate one student who will receive this $1,500 scholarship. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be accepted into a post high school education program (college or trade school), enrolled in Roanoke City Schools for at least three years, and have demonstrated good citizenship as well as school or community leadership.
Gloria Barron Prize / / $5,000 / 4/15/2017 / The Barron Prize welcomes applications from public-spirited young people who are, on ourApril 15deadline:
  • between the ages of 8 and 18 (not yet age 19)
  • permanent residents of and currently residing in the U.S.A. or Canada; currently working on an inspiring service project or have done so within the past 12 months; working as an individual to lead their service work. The Barron Prize does not accept applications from large groups of young people.

Blue Ridge Council of Teachers of Mathematics Scholarship / / $500/year for 4 years / 4/21/17
Online App / This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior planning on entering the field of mathematics education. Student must attend a VA college or university and maintain a 3.0 overall GPA and a 2.8 average in all math courses.
Virginia's Blue Ridge Hospitality Association Scholarship / Applications in Penn Hall / $$$ / 4/21/17 / The applicant must be a current student or have been accepted and plan to attend a University to study Hospitality Management or Culinary Arts.

The Roanoke Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Scholarship / Applications in Penn Hall / $1,000 / 4/24/17
Paper Application / The Roanoke Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity is awarding two $1,000 scholarships to support local college-bound African-American high school seniors. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement (2.8+ GPA), leadership potential, service, and participation in activities both in and out of school. Applications must be RECEIVED by the deadline not simply post-marked by the deadline. Scholarship recipients will be required to attend a scholarship workshop on 5/11/17.

Insurance Professionals of Roanoke / / $1,000 / 4/30/17
Email / The Insurance Professionals of Roanoke offers three $1,000 scholarships to assist students in furthering their education in business or a business related field. Qualifying students must have financial need; have and maintain a 3.0 GPA; and have been accepted to a two or four year college or university. You must write a letter of application (minimum of 1 page) making reference to each of the qualifications for the scholarship. You must also include a letter of recommendation and a transcript. Application materials can be emailed or mailed and must be received by the deadline.
Capital One Virginia Military Dependent Scholarship / / $5,000 / 4/30/17
Online App / This scholarship is open to current high school seniors in Virginia. Applicants must be dependents of an active duty service member OR be service members in the Reserves or National Guard. Capital One employees and family members are not eligible.
The Roanoke Education Association Scholarship / Applications in Penn Hall / $500 / 5/3/17 / One student from Patrick Henry and one student from William Fleming will be selected to receive this award. Students who apply must be interested in a career in the field of education (not necessarily a teacher). Applications should be submitted by the deadline to Miss Ayers in Penn Hall.
Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Beta Phi Boule Academic Recognition Award / / $1,000 / 5/3/17
Paper Application / The Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity awards its Beta Phi Boule Academic Recognition Award to an African-American senior student who has attended Patrick Henry for at least two years. Student must be a good citizen and accepted to an institution of higher learning. The student will have to write an essay and submit three letters of recommendation, a character reference, and their transcript.
Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship / Applications in Penn Hall / $500 / 5/12/17 / Theta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa will award $500 scholarship to a graduating senior who plans to be a future teacher. The application includes several short informational essays: your life at home; your life outside your home; 2-3 significant accomplishments during high school; and why you want and/or need this scholarship.
Virginia Education Association Beblon G. Parks Scholarship / Applications in Penn Hall / $500 / 5/15/17 / The Beblon G. Parks Scholarship Fund will award a $500 scholarship to a high school senior who plans to pursue a career in the field of Education. Students must have a 3.0 GPA to apply.
VA Department of Housing and Community Development / Applications in Penn Hall / $1,500 / 5/31/2017 / The VA DHCD is offering a scholarship to all juniors and graduating high school seniors. Interested applicants are invited to submit a 1000-word or less essay that illustrates how code officials promote community safety and economic growth in their community. Essay prompt and rules can be found on the application.
Got a Spine Scholarship / / $500 / 6/2/2017 / Student must be attending college full time by October 2016 and must have achieved a 2.5+ GPA at the end of their senior year. Students can be enrolled in any program of study. You must answer the essay questions on the scholarship form online.
Global Life Equipment Scholarship / / $500 / 6/15/2017 / You must be planning on attending college in the fall. You must submit a short story as part of the application process. See the application page for more detailed instructions.
Horatio Alger National Career & Technical Scholarship Program / / $2,500 / 6/15/2017 / Students must graduate from high school in Spring 2017 and be enrolled in a career or technical degree/certificate program in fall 2017 that will lead to employment. Must demonstrate financial need by being eligible for the Pell Grant.
Lift Parts Express Scholarship / / $500 / 6/30/2017 / You must be planning on attending college in the fall. You must write an essay on the following topic: Going to college is a big financial commitment. Write an essay that outlines how much you expect to spend to finish your schooling, how you intend to pay for your schooling, and what you expect your job to be once you are finished your schooling. There is no word limit for the essay.
