PREREQUISITES FOR NURSING
Linfield College-Good Samaritan School of Nursing admits students on a transfer basis only. Prerequisite courses may be completed at any regionally accredited community college or university.
Applications accepted for summer and fall cohorts: November 15 through February 1
Applications accepted for spring cohort: June 1 through August 1
Prerequisites for ALL students:
  • WR 121 and WR 122 or equivalent college writing (minimum 3 semester or 6 quarter credits)
  • Full sequence of biology (must include cell biology) or chemistry with labs (see transfer guides)
  • Full sequence of anatomy and physiology with labs (within 7 years)
  • Microbiology with lab (within 7 years)
  • Lifespan developmental psychology/human development (must include conception to death)
  • Human nutrition (within 7 years)
  • Statistics
BEFORE you applyyou must COMPLETE 16 quarter credits (11 semester credits) of lab sciences, 6 quarter credits (3 semester credits) of college writing, Nutrition, Statistics and Human Development.
Anatomy, physiology, microbiology and nutrition must have been completed within the last 7 years.
If a course is repeated or more than one course fulfills a requirement, we will consider the course with the higher grade when assessing your application. Anatomy & Physiology is an exception. Only the first repeat of any one anatomy & physiology course will be considered.
GPA minimum requirements for application:
  • Anatomy & Physiology courses: 2.700
  • Combined lab science courses: 3.000
  • All prerequisite courses: 3.000

Linfield Curriculum (General Education):
Students seeking their first bachelor’s degree must complete general education requirements prior to graduation. These may be completed during the nursing program, but it is recommended that the majority of these courses be completed prior to enrollment. The prerequisite courses above will satisfy some of the general education requirements. Additional courses may be required. 62 semester credits minimum (93 quarter credits) are required for entry into the nursing program.
Transfer credit will be evaluated for all admitted students prior to orientation. The evaluation will include courses that satisfy Linfield Curriculum requirements. Transfer credit will be considered for courses completed at regionally accredited two- and four-year colleges and universities only. A letter grade of ‘C’ or higher is required for transfer.
