Fire Prevention Practices / FFP 1505
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A course on structure and organization of fire prevention, organizations, conducting inspections, interpreting and applying code regulations. A study of procedures and techniques of fire prevention, including surveying and mapping, recognition and elimination of fire hazards and fire risk analysis as applied to municipal and industrial occupancies. 3 semester credit hours

The standing of a student in each course is expressed by one of the following letters and corresponding grading system:
A – 100 – 93
B – 92 – 83
C – 70 – 82

DISCIPLINE-SPECIFIC [FIRE SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY] COMPETENCIES / LEARNING OUTCOMES:
FFP 1505 is not a general education core course, but is a core Fire Science Course in the area of Fire Science Technology.
This course is designed to provide advanced training to certified firefighters and persons in the field of Fire Science.
1.  The student will identify the purpose and need for fire prevention inspections and tactical surveys.
2.  The student will present an analysis of fire hazards and causes.
3.  The student will know definitions that apply to classification of occupancies.
4.  The student will compute fire loads for different classes of occupancies.
5.  The student will know classifications of fire.
6.  The student will know appropriate method of extinguishment for each class of fire.
7.  The student will understand the origin, purpose, success and failures of automatic sprinkler systems.
8.  The student will know the classifications of standpipe systems.
9.  The student will know the types of special extinguishing systems.

c)  Foam systems
10.  The student will identify and describe the design deficiencies that ate responsible for the spread of fire, heat, and smoke in buildings.
11.  The student will describe the different exit requirements for various occupancies.
12.  The student will explain the need for adequate and unimpeded travel from all areas of a structure.
13.  The student will know proper procedures to conduct an effective inspection.
14.  The student will know procedures to eliminate fire hazards and make on-the-spot corrections during an inspection.
15.  The student will prepare a fire inspection report.

ATTENDANCE AND WITHDRAWAL POLICIES:
This program requires that students follow the BFST attendance policy, which basically states that no student may miss more than 10% of any course. Some class experiences however, have a mandatory attendance requirement.
Withdrawal policy as stated in the Chipola Catalog.
MAKE-UP POLICY:
Only students with approved absences will be allowed to make up course work and receive credit. Make-up work will be comparable in content and quality to the course instruction missed.
