Link Peer Mentoring Program

Mentee Application 2016

PROGRAM INFORMATION

What is Link?

The Link Peer Mentoring Program is designed to assist first-year and transfer students from underrepresented and underserved populations with their college transition by pairing them with a peer mentor who provides guidance, support and resources. Benefits to participation include learning about resources and opportunities at the University of San Diego (USD); attending educational, cultural and social events sponsored by the United Front Multicultural Center (UFMC) and other campus organizations and departments; and meeting other students, faculty and staff.

The Program’s goals are: (1) to enhance retention among underrepresented and underserved student populations; (2) to offer leadership opportunities; (3) to provide resources and a support system for new students as they transition into USD’s academic and student life; (4) to inspire the development of friendships and community; and (5) to encourage student involvement in campus and community events.

How does the program work?

During the summer, future USD first year and transfer students are recruited into the program and matched with peer mentors according to common interests and characteristics such as major, extracurricular activities, hometown, hobbies and/or other mentor/mentee preferences.
