GUYERHIGH SCHOOL

Line Try-Out Information Packet

Dear Silverado Candidate Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

The try-out date for the Silverados Line will be Friday March 28th, 2014. I feel it is important that you are aware of what is expected from each girl on the day of the try-outs. It is vitally important to understand the responsibilities of the girls who make the team. There will be a great commitment on the part of each parent whose daughter is selected as a member of the Silverados.

Practice time will be from 4:20-6:00pm in the Wildcat Gym, March 24th-27th. A mock try-out will be given Thursday – March 27th, during the clinic, for the line candidates to receive individual feedback. Every candidate will attend all daily practices. If a candidate is academically ineligible, she must attend all daily practices, but only to observe. The ineligible candidate will become eligible – on Friday, March28th in order to try-out. During practice, the girls will learn the try-out material and procedures. All candidates should wear comfortable clothing that they can move in during the try-out workshop.

March 28this the only try-out date that will be offered. Try-outs begin promptly at 4:20pm. Try-outs will end around 7:30pm. Each candidate must stay for the full try-out period in order to allow for judging call backs. Try-outs are closed to the public. Parents and friends must wait outside the school – in order to give candidates full concentration and focus for try-outs. The 2014-2015Silverados’ name will be posted on the Silverado website.

Membership depends strictly on a 100 point scale. Candidates must make an85-100 to maintain membership of the team. The girls will try-out in front of three qualified judges. The judges will make their selection and their decision is FINAL. The candidate will receive feedback from each judge if he/she requests it from the administration.

There will be a required meeting on Wednesday, February26that 6:30pm in the Lecture Hall. Parents/Guardians of all candidates who wish to try-out MUST attend this meeting. If unable to attend, a designated adult of the candidate must attend to pick up all information on Try-Outs. If there is an unexpected emergency the night of the meeting – immediately contact Ms. Simpson. This meeting will be the time to give you additional information and to answer any questions. All forms (included in the packet) must be completed and turned in no LATER than Monday – March 24th, 2014.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 940-369-1173 or e-mail me at .

AUDITION PERMISSION FORM

______, my child, has permission to try out for drill team at Guyer High School for the 2014-2015 school years. We have read all the information in the tryout packet and will assist in every way to see that the rules are upheld. If my child is selected to the team, I understand that each drill team member is financially responsible for the drill team costs throughout the year and, that once the items are ordered, money cannot be refunded. While the drill team is fortunate to have an allotted budget to help with the cost, a member’s first year is more costly, as returning members may be able to use accessories form year to year. I also understand that the school, the drill team and the Director assume no responsibility for any accident or injury that might occur at the school, during an event or away from school grounds. In the event that the family physician cannot be contacted, the school officials are authorized to take whatever action is deemed necessary for the health of a student. I also understand that the judges hired for the tryouts have no affiliation to the school, or any candidate. I know that the Director and GHS administration have no influence on the outcome of the tryouts and will not hold her or the school responsible if my child does not make the team. I shall encourage and strive to make it possible for my child to be a good leader at GuyerHigh School. By signing below, we each state that we understand and agree to the contest of the rules and procedures documented, as well as all information above.

SILVERADO PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

The Denton Guyer High School Silverados are an elite performing team. Silverado auditions are only the first of many auditions a Silverado must complete during the year. Silverados are required to audition throughout the year in order to maintain the level of excellence to which the team is accustomed.

Parents please initial each line and sign below.

_____ I am aware that my child will be required to audition for every routine as a member of the silverados. Audition dates for each routine will be announced ahead of time. If my child does not perform satisfactorily at the audition, the Director may eliminate her from the routines(s).

_____ While the current officers will be allowed input in the routine audition process, I understand that the Silverado Directors will make the final decision regarding auditions and performance. I will contact the Director if a question arises about an audition.

_____ I understand that if my child is absent the day of auditions, the Director will decide in the best interest of the team if my child will be allowed to audition. During football season if my child is not present the day of auditions he/she will not be able to audition.

_____ I understand that if my child is not present up to two days prior to a performance, my child will be pulled from that routine, i.e., if the performance is on Friday, my child must be present at practice on both Thursday and Friday.

_____ I will have my child attend any practice/performance in which my child has not made the line as outlined in the Silverado Constitution.

_____ I understand that if my child is not performing, my child will sit/stand in the safest area as designated by the Directors.

_____ I will be supportive of the decisions that are made and know that they are in the best interest of the team.

_____ I understand that my child will be asked to follow internet guidelines, and the director will be able to see Facebook, Twitter, and other social media pages.

_____ I understand, per UIL and DISD regulations, that if my child fails a six weeks period, my child will be ineligible to perform for the three weeks. If my child is passing ALL classes at the three week point, my child will again be eligible to perform; if not, my child will continue the grade suspension for the remainder of the six weeks.
