Meet Governor Baker: Governor Charlie Baker is coming to Bedford. The purpose of his visit is to learn about Rotary in Massachusetts and explore the possibility of partnering with Rotary in tackling some of the nagging issues currently ongoing in Massachusetts. The event will be held at our Doubletree Hotel on September 27th. 6:00PM – 8:00PM. It will be held in the evening and the cost will be $37 per person. Tickets may be purchased on the district website =

The Rotary Foundation: Spotlight on Bedford. Ralph has come with more amazing statistics; In the past 20 years the Rotary Club of Bedford has participated in 40 Projects here in the USA and 18 different countries around the world. Our club and our Rotarians contributed $96,829 to these projects. but adding in the funds from The Rotary Foundation Grants and other Partnershipsthe total value of these projects soars to $464,783. But we have participated in or undertaken and completed many projects over the years that do not involve matching grants. When you add in the total value of all these projects and programs the numbers increase dramatically. The total contributed by Bedford Rotarians and The Bedford Rotary Foundation totals $525,000 with a total project value of $850,400.

New Member:We have said it many times and will continue to say it, the lifeblood of any Rotary club resides with its members. This past weekend we welcomed Bopha Malone to our club. Bopha was born in Phnom Penh Cambodia and now resides in Bedford. She is in banking and is looking forward to working with us in the coming months and years.

Shootout for Soldiers:One of our visitors today was Col. Michael “Sully” Sullivan. Mike is the local leader for Shootout for Soldiers, which is a fundraiser to supply funds for needy soldiers returning from combat. The event is a 24-hourlacrosse marathon. We heard Sully’s presentation last year and supported the event. As part of his visit today Mike brought us a certification for our support of the event last year.

Operation Delta Dog: Trisha Blanchet founder and president of Operation Delta Dog was with us to explain how she has turned abandoned dogs into service dogs to help veterans.

Every day, 22 veterans take their own lives in the United States, almost oneper hour.Thesevets serve their country and then come home to face the even greater challenges of TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) andPTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) that can leave them debilitated, sleepless, and unable to cope. Massachusetts is home to about 400,000 veterans. If Veteran's Administration estimates are correct, that means that about 20 percent of those, or 80,000 of our friends and neighbors, are suffering with these invisible disabilities right now.

On the other handeach year, more than 50,000 dogs wind up homeless in Massachusetts. Many of these animals are sweet-tempered and trainable, but there’s just nowhere for them go. The sad result? Nearly half of all shelter animals are euthanized.

About four years ago Tricia thought it would be a good idea to put the two together and she started training the dogs and matching them with needy Veterans. To date her team has trained and placed 37 dogs with veterans.

Raffles and Happy Dollars: One of our guests won the raffle prize and Bob Mead won another shot at the 50/50 raffle. Today was a special day with a half dozen service men and women attending our club to hear the program about Operation Delta Dog and many members gave up their happy dollars in honor of their attendance, Another common happy dollars was for our hugely successful Bedford day and for Diana who took it over at the last minute, Cliff was additionally happy as his daughter is now qualified to run the Boston Marathon, Bopha was happy to be a member of our club, Terry was happy to be sitting next to John Peterson, Linda was happy to have her daughter visiting from out west, Judi was happy to have started an after school school in Bedford.
