Principal’s Message

Lincoln School has been approved for a new project that will change the face of the front of our school. We will be looking to build an Outside Classroom, which will be adjacent to the school. This project will be spearheaded by teachers Mrs. Grady and Mrs. Frake and sponsored by our PTC. The vision is to provide an alternative learning environment for students to gain knowledge and obtain skills in a natural environment. An outdoor classroom would lend itself to the learning of many science concepts, but can also be utilized for math, reading, art, physical education, music, and writing as well. More information will be coming from our PTC on how parents and community members can donate to our project.

For the month of January, our school attendance decreased to92.29%! This is slightly below our monthly goal of 94%. For the month of January, we only had 117 students receive the Perfect Attendance recognition. Make sure to check out their names as well as our attendance graph as you enter our school. Attending school regularly is important for students with establishing consistent routines and not getting behind with their schoolwork.

Classroom Feature

Our classroom feature for this month is our 4th grade, Mrs. King and Mrs. Poulin:

We are off to a great start in fourth grade. We have tackled many tough concepts in math including long division and multiplication. Reading and writing are a little different for both classrooms as Mrs. Poulin’s class is piloting a reading program. This means both classrooms are working on fourth grade skills but we are reading different stories and doing different assignments.

This year we dove into Maine Studies by going on a field trip to the Maine State Museum. We learned about Thomas Moser, the famous Maine chair maker, how to make arrowheads and much more. We will be taking another field trip in May to the Blaine House and Legislature to learn more about how our government works.

Fourth grade parents don't forget any fourth grade student can get a free National Park Pass just by going to Take advantage of this excellent opportunity to see Acadia National Park for free!

Second Chance Breakfast

Starting Feb 5, students will be offered a Second Chance at Breakfast at Lincoln Elementary School. This program was piloted at Farrington last year and was so successful that we are implementing it in the other three district elementary schools. Beginning at 8:30 am, Food Service workers will push a cart from room to room offering students a chance to get breakfast if they missed it in the cafeteria before class started. The student will enter his/her PIN into the computer tablet, get a breakfast and go back to the classroom. There will be no cash sales during this time to keep things moving along. If they ate in the cafeteria and try to eat again, the computer system flags them and they will not get a 2nd meal.

If you have any questions about this program, please contact me.

Please contact Staci Fortunato, our PTC president, at for further questions or how you can become involved with the PTC.

Student Council~ Pennies for Patients

On February 2, 2018 student council will be kicking off their next project of raising money through Pennies for Patients for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The mission of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Donations from Pennies for Patients help pay for medicines, doctors, or other expenses, and also help fund research focused on finding a cure.

Each student will be given a collection box to collect change in. Student are able to collect money until March 9, 2018. In addition to collecting change, each Friday in February will be hat day. For a donation of $1.00 students can wear their hat during the school day. Be on the lookout for more information coming home soon!

Nurse Notes

Flu season has officially arrived. To date, there have not been any confirmed cases of the flu at Lincoln. We strive to keep both our students and staff healthy at school. Tables, desks, and door knobs are constantly being washed down. There is also lots of hand washing and hand sanitizing going on. If your child has a temperature or is exhibiting flu like symptoms, students should stay home. They need to be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. If a student has a cough or stuffy nose, these are things that can be supported at school. Always communicate with the nurse on medical things going on with your child. When possible, please provide the school with a doctor’s note on any absences.

World’s Finest Chocolate/ Snack Fundraiser

Our Chocolate/ Snack Fundraiser thru the World’s Finest Chocolate, sponsored by our PTC, will begin 2/5/18. Students will be sent home with order forms and an informational letter for parents. We will be selling solid chocolate bunnies and assorted snacks over the next few weeks. Students can turn in order forms and money by 2/16/18 to be considered for an incentive. All orders will arrive by the end of March. The money raised from this event helps to pay for indoor and outdoor supplies for students, bringing in guests (ex. Theater group), showing appreciation for our teachers, and field trips for students. The PTC thanks you in advance for your support.
