Earth Science Teacher
Dear Families,
Hello and welcome to Earth Science. If you received my e-mail, some of this letter will sound familiar. I will be using the teacher access center to send out e-mails to inform you of assignments, grade print outs to be sent home, student performance and any other concerns. Please make sure your e-mail addresses are current in the office. I also maintain a calendar on my blog where I post when homework and assignments are due and the topics and projects students are working on in class. You can subscribe to my blog to receive notice of updates as well.
Please review these classroom procedures and expectations with your student, sign, detach and have them return the signed slip on Monday September 14th. (This will help them with their quiz. )
Prepared and Ready to Learn
Students are expected to:
Be on time and ready to learn. If students are in their chairs at their desk with their supplies and following directions, they are “on time”. If not, they are tardy.
Engage, listen and contribute.
On Mondays student will fill out theirplanner for the week. We will make changes as needed through out the week.
Be Safe and Responsible
There is no horseplay or off task behavior during labs, investigations and activities. Students who choose to do so will sit out the activity and take notes the first time. The second time will result in a ASD . The third time will result in a referral.
Homeworkwill be required for students who have not completed their work in class, studying for quizzes and tests, and for some independent projects. Due datesfor assignments will be posted on the black board, in planners and on the class calendar of my blog.
Late work will be accepted, but 10% of the score will be deducted per day
Students will be dismissed when their area is clean and their table group is standing quietly.
Any missed work from an absence must be made up. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what they missed and make arrangements to do the make-up work. Check the classroom blog. Ask table partner for clarification. Get needed papers from the file cabinet. Check with me at lunch or after school for clarification if needed. Studentswill have 2 days for every day missed to make up work. Students need to write which days they were absent on papers they turn in late in order to get full credit.
Do not throw away science papers! Each student will have a file in the classroom to organize and store their papers. If you are cleaning out your binder, put science papers in your file in the classroom. Students will make a portfolio of their science work at the end of the term.
Know Your Grade
40% of your grade is quizzes and tests. If you did not do well on a test study the homework and class assignments for the topic and complete any required review sheets then schedule a retake time with me. No quizzes can be retaken after the Unit Test.
Use home access center, assignment sheets and posted grades to track your progress. If you have any questions talk with Ms. Wilson at lunch or after school.
