Concept Development Checklist

  1. Pavement

Y / N / N/A / NFI
  1. Has the Pavement Recommendation been provided by Pavement Management?(Attach)

  1. Is the shoulder pavement box adequate to support traffic during staging?

  1. Are excessive localized pavement repairs required?

  1. Are there geometric constraints (e.g., driveways, limited curb reveal, overpass) that will require the project to be milled prior to overlay treatment?

  1. If milling is necessary, is the milling required over the majority of the project limits?

  1. Have all ramps within the limits of the project, and adjacent pavement sections been inspected to determine adequacy of pavement condition?

  1. Are reliable As-Built plans and information available for this section of roadway and has this information been obtained from the Engineering Documents Unit?(Internet aerial images may be used if reliable As-Built plans are not available.)

7.
  1. Structural

Y / N / N/A / NFI
  1. Are there any structures within the project limits?

  1. Will the thin surface treatment be applied to any of the bridge decks?

  1. Has Structures approved the addition of thin surface treatment dead load?

  1. Is milling required under any structures in order to maintain minimum or substandard under-clearance?

Comments: / 1.
2.
3.
4.

**Coordination with the Department of Defense MUST be conducted on ALL Interstate Structures where the existing/proposed vertical under-clearance is substandard. The coordination is required if the resulting vertical under-clearance remains substandard; whether the under-clearance is reduced, maintained, or improved.

  1. Traffic Management/Operations

Y / N / N/A / NFI
  1. Detour – Is it necessary and/or feasible? Has conceptual approval been received from Traffic Operations?

  1. Staged Construction - Is it necessary and/or feasible? Has conceptual approval been received from Traffic Operations?

  1. Have Lane Closure Hours been provided?(if yes, provide memo from Traffic Operationsas an attachment)

  1. Are there any work zone issues that will need to be managed or mitigated?

Comments: / 1.
2.
3.
4.
  1. Bicycle/Pedestrian/ADA

Y / N / N/A / NFI
  1. Is this improvement considered an “alteration”? If No, then the following questions do not apply.

  1. Are there worn paths from pedestrian activity present?

  1. Are new sidewalks needed?

  1. Are new crosswalks needed?

  1. Are pedestrian countdown heads needed at signalized intersections?(Confirm with the Bureau of Traffic Engineering.)

  1. Is the roadway bicycle compatible?(e.g., drainage grates)

  1. Does the recommended surface treatment(s) require ADA upgrades?

  1. Are utility relocations needed for ADA compliance?

  1. Is ROW required for ADA compliance? (Break out)

Number: /
  1. How many intersections require the installation of ADA curb ramps?

  1. Drainage, Safety and Miscellaneous

Y / N / N/A / NFI
  1. Do rumble strips exist within the project limits?

  1. Do rumble strips need to be added within the project limits?

  1. Do Raised Pavement Markers exist within the project limits?

  1. Are any guide rail upgrades required?

  1. If guide rail upgrades are required, can they be done within the scope of this project? (If not, provide inventory of guiderail upgrade/repairs to aid future maintenance work orders or capital projects.)

  1. Do any locations within the proposed project limits rank on the Safety Management System. (Include ranking data.If there are not any ranking locations, no further analysis is required.)

  1. If so, can any high value/low cost improvements be made within the scope of the project? (If improvements are needed but cannot be completed within the scope of this project, please identify the next steps(e.g., Submission of Problem Statement).)

  1. Are there any localized drainage or ponding concerns that can be improved within the scope of the project?
