Gerry Ryan Limerick Invitation Gala (L.C.) 2013

Electronic timing will be used throughout the gala.

Age on the first day of competition applies – 2nd February 2013.

Fees: €6.00 per individual event and €20.00 per relay event. Please post full fees on or before closing date toMary Corby, ‘Celtic Lodge’, Ballycarney, Clarina, Co. Limerick. All cheques made payable to Limerick Swimming Club.

Closing date for all entries is Friday 25thJanuary 2013 6pm.

(There will be no changes after this date as the gala will be seeded into heats – no scratches).

Meet Conditions

  1. Swimmers must be members of Swim IrelandSwim Ireland Rules will apply.
  2. One Start rule will apply for this gala.
  3. Heats will be run as an open event based on each swimmers entry time in 10 lane format. Finals will be split into separate age groups and run in 10 lane format.
  4. There will be finals in all 50m and 100m events, all other events will be H.D.W. – see table attached.
  5. Medals will be awarded in all individual events in age groups 11&under, 13&under, 15&under, 16&over. Medals will be presented throughout the day.
  6. Swimmers will be limited to 6 individual swim events total over the 2 days.
  7. There will be no reserve finalists.
  8. Should there be time constraints the host club has the right to change finals to H.D.W. and this will be announced prior to the event. If any event is over-subscribed we reserve the right to limit heats (clubs will be notified in advance). This is to comply with new upcoming licensing requirements.
  9. There are Qualifying Times for all events.The host club reserve the right to have some of their swimmers outside the qualifying times in 50’s, 100’s and 200’s events only.
  10. All entry times must be official times and may be verified on the National database.
  11. Relays – only 1 swim-up allowed and 2 teams per club per relay event. Please provide names of relay swimmers in advance.
  12. Restrictions on personnel poolside will be strictly enforced to ensure safety & effective running of all gala. ID badges will be allocated on the morning of the gala to coaches & team managers on deck (based on entries). Please provide their names with entries where possible.All other coaches and team managers are welcome in the spectator area.

The Gerry Ryan Perpetual Cup will be presented to the best overall “VISITING” club at the gala and the L.S.C. Plaque to the runner-up “VISITING” club.

Safety at Swim Meets

All accidents, however minor must be reported, in writing, to Swim Ireland.

We would ask the co-operation of swimmers, coaches, spectators and clubs in the

application of the following safety measures. They are in place for everyone's safety.

1. General;

  • Everyone attending Meets must familiarise themselves with the locations and operation ofemergency exits.
  • Anyone observing anything they consider to be a safety hazard should report it to a MeetOfficial.
  • All persons attending Meets must take all steps to ensure their own safety and the safety ofothers.
  • All walkways must be kept clear of bags, equipment, etc.

2. Starting;

It is the responsibility of competitors, coaches and clubs to ensure that all swimmers are

  • sufficiently competent to dive start from competition starting blocks.

Alternatively, swimmers

  • are reminded that they may start from the poolside.
  • In the event of a false start, swimmers should perform a safe entry and Not fall into the water.

3. Warm-Up;

Swimmers and coaches must ensure that they (and swimmers in their charge) take no action

  • that would endanger themselves or others.
  • The instructions of those in authority must be obeyed immediately.

Swimmers are not permitted to dive or jump into lanes other than sprint lanes and then only

  • when the area is sufficiently clear to make a safe entry.
  • Do not start sprinting in a sprint lane until non-sprinting swimmers have cleared it.
  • On finishing a sprint immediately clear the way for the following swimmer(s).

4. Around the Pool (e.g. spectator area, foyer area, etc.)

  • Swimmers are not permitted to enter dry areas without first having changed and put on
  • footwear.
  • Where there is a balcony or rail - swimmers are not permitted to climb over it.
  • Glass bottles are not permitted outside designated refreshment areas.
