License Plate Shop Hop Bag

The fun medium sized bag we’re making this month will have you smiling. Well, my grandson is in the picture on the front at one of my bags. You’ll have a few choices to make before coming to class this month. Do you want to use the fabric license plate from your “favorite” quilt shop for $6.99 (or one you’ve gotten from a faraway shop you visited)? Or do you want to e-mail us a .jpg picture so we can print it for you on our special printer with the same ink that is used to dye fabric for $10.00? You’ll also get to choose whether you want a magnetic snap closure or a zipper closure. Watch for those optional materials below. Whichever way you choose you’ll have a fun purse to use and show off.

What to bring:

Your sewing machine in good working order, 80/12 and 90/12 topstitch needles, matching threads, marking tool, (pen, pencil, chalk) pins, scissors, seam ripper, ¼” foot or a way to measure ¼” seams, rotary cutter, a 12 ½” or longer ruler, a 2 ½” up to 6 ½” square ruler will help as well.

____ 1/3 yard Shape Flex

Optional – your choice:

____ magnetic snap OR 14” zipper

____ ½” or a bit larger (2) D rings, (2) lobster clasps and (1) slider if you want to

to make your strap adjustable

What to cut:

____ Trim picture or license plate to 4” x 7 5/8” (*your picture may need to be cut to a bit less than 7 5/8” so

watch for different cut below)

____ From 2 ½” strip A

Cut (2) 2 ½” x 4” for sides of license plate/picture (*If using a 5” x 7” picture you may need to cut these

from scraps to cut (2) 3” x 4” to make up the difference)

Cut (2) 2 ½” x 11 5/8” for the bag

____ From 2 ½” strip B

Cut (1) 2 ½” x 11 5/8” for the bag

Cut (2) 1” x 11 5/8” for the bag

Cut (2) 1 ½” x 10 ½” for inside pocket accentFuse Shape Flex on these.

Cut (1) 2 ½” x 11 5/8” for the bag

Cut (2) 1 ½” x 11 5/8” for the bag

Cut (1) 2 ½” x WOF for the strap

If you want it adjustable cut 1 width of fabric + another ½ width of fabric. We’ll sew them in class.

Cut (4) 6” x 10 ½” for 2 pockets (the pattern only calls for 1 but you know me. We need lots of pockets

We’ll cut and iron the fusible fleece on in class.

You can choose what order the fabrics will go in but the pattern calls for them in the following order when sewing them. It might make a difference to you when picking the fabrics.
