Library Project for School and Blind Children
In February 2010 Global Reach International will be brining a Librarian from New Jersey to Nepal to help establish a Library for needy children. The school was discovered by one of our board members Mike Cassidey during his stay as a volunteer in Nepal. The school approached Mike with the idea of bringing a library to their school for both the students and blind students.
Our objective is to raise enough funds to purchase computers and books to supply the library with the needed material. The amount we are looking to raise is $5000. The school will be supplying the room, building the shelves, and supplying the staff to operate the library for the children. The computers will have encyclopedias and we will be purchasing National Geographic’s Computer collection to be placed on all computers.
Global Reach international’s volunteer will set up the computers and books for the school. She will give a training on how to properly operate and manage the library. We will also give courses on how to use the computers.
Since it is expensive to ship computers to Nepal we are looking for used laptops that we can bring into the country. The laptops will be shipped with us on our cargo during flight. If anyone has laptops that are functional and would like to donate them to Global Reach International please send them to 341 Route 206, Branchville NJ, 07826. We will only have room for twenty computers. We will notify donors once we hit our target number.
Funds raised for the library will be used to purchase the books, supplies, and CD software for the computers. The books will be purchased in Nepal. It will also be used for transportation expenses of computers from the USA to Nepal. If no fee is charged from the airline to bring these computers, the remaining money will be used to purchase supplies for the new library.
