LIBOR TOURS – NORMANDY 2017

The 2017 LIBOR Normandy tours will depart in March, April, May and September and will be open to all Normandy veterans meeting the eligibility criteria plus 2 family members/carers. In addition, an overnight stay pre and post tour in either London or Ashford is included (not included for Bristol departure) and each participant will be given a travel allowance of up to £50.00 per person towards the cost of travel to their departure point.

The tours will be accompanied by a Royal British Legion guide, doctor and an Arena Travel tour manager.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

All successful applicants must adhere to the following criteria in order to be accepted:

  • Must be a British National and hold a British Passport
  • Applicant must have served in the in the British Forces in the Normandy area during the Second World War period classed as 3rd Sept 1939 to 8th May 1945

British Forces inc: Army, RAF, Navy including Merchant Navy

  • Applicant must have their service details – Regiment, Unit etc

PROVISIONAL ITINERARY

The final itinerary will be confirmed once the guide has spoken to all of the tour participants to ensure we cover all of the personal visits.

Day 1

Travel to London or Ashfordindependently

Check in to Victory Services Club / Ashford Int Hotelfor overnight stay – Bed and Breakfast Basis

Day 2

Early breakfast at the Victory Services Club / Ashford Int Hotel

Early morning (0730hrs approx.) departure fromcentral London and drive to Folkestone for Eurotunnel crossing to Calais.Collection at the Ashford Int Hotel en-route.

On arrival drive to Normandy for early evening check-in to the Novotel Caen Cote de Nacre.

Dinner in the hotel restaurant

Day 3 to Day 5

Breakfast and dinner daily in the hotel

Three full days touring the area including:

  • Sword, Juno and Gold beaches
  • Pegasus Bridge and Café Gondee
  • Utah and Omaha Beaches
  • Bayeux Cathedral and Bayeux War Cemetery
  • Arromanches
  • Personal cemetery / memorial visits

Day 6

Breakfast in the hotel restaurant

Morning departure from the hotel and drive to Calais for the return Eurotunnel crossing to Folkestone. On arrival, continue the drive to London via Ashford for early evening arrival – Approx 2030hrs.

Travel to local area independently

BRISTOL DEPARTURE NOTES: The tour departing on 21st May will originate from Bristol Temple Meads Station and utilize the Brittany Ferries route from Portsmouth to Ouistreham and not Eurotunnel. The tour will depart at approximately 1000hrs and passengers can join in Bristol or at the Portsmouth Ferry Terminal. Passengers will be given up to £50.00 per person travel allowance however accommodation in Bristol/Portsmouth is not included. On the return, the estimated arrival time in Bristol is approximately 2330hrs.

TRAVEL ALLOWANCE

A travel allowance of up to £50.00 per person can be claimed upon their return to the UK by sending the travel receipts to Arena Travel in a freepost envelope. Anfreepost envelope containing a claim form will be included in their tour wallet and passengers will have 14 days from the date they return to the UK to claim the travel allowance.

GROUP BOOKINGS

If an organisation has a group of 10 Veterans (30 passengers), we will operate a coach at no charge from a local departure point to join an existing tour or operate a separate tour. The group would not qualify for the £50.00 travel allowance.

REGIONAL FLIGHTS

In order to attract more veterans from Scotland and some places further afield, regional flights to London will be included. Anyone taking the flight option would not qualify for the £50.00 travel allowance.
