Level VFC “Play it Safe” Safety Camp
Level Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. proudly offers a camp designed to educate children on preventing accidents, preparing for the unexpected and how to react to emergency situations. Daily hands on lessons, games, crafts and activities will reinforce the knowledge your child already has as well as teach additional valuable life saving lessons.
The camp is FREE of charge and open to children entering kindergarten through the completion of 5th grade. Parents are asked to provide one package of cookies per family to be used for snack. Please bring this on the first day of camp. Special dietary snacks should be sent in a brown paper bag labeled with the child’s name. Level VFC will provide juice and water.
Camp is strictly limited to the first 100 children who pre-register, no exceptions. Please register your child early and only if they can attend all three days. Camp will begin promptly at 9:00 am and end at Noon each day. Please be on time.

Camp will be held July 9, 10, & 11, 2014 at the Level Volunteer Fire Company from 9:00 am to 12 Noon each day. The fire house is located at 3633 Level Village Road Havre de Grace, MD 21078.

 School Bus Safety

Presented by Anderson Bus Company

The school bus can be a valuable tool for getting our children safely to and from school. Children will be reminded of the safe way to sit on a bus, enter and exit the bus and participate in a bus evacuation drill.

  • Lawn Mower & Power Tool Safety

Presented by: Atlantic Tractor

Lawnmowers are not toys and children should not ride on them nor be near them when in operation. Children will learn safety measures that should be use when adults are operating machinery and power tools.

  • Emergency! 9-1-1

Presented by Dispatcher Kim Stritzinger, Harford County Department of Emergency Services

Children will learn the importance of 9-1-1, when to call, and what information needs

to be given to the call-taker.

  • Boater Safety

Presented by Captain Bill Reeder, Susquehanna Hose Co. Dive Team

Warm weather and water can spell disaster if safety precautions are not followed. Captain Reeder and his team members will go over the importance of personal flotation devices, never swim alone and general water safety guidelines.

  • Fire and Injury Prevention

Presented by 2014 Harford County Fire Prevention Ambassadors

The Fire & Injury Prevention ambassadors will teach the children fire safety lessons using games like “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Safety”. Topics will include Smoke Alarms, Stop, Drop & Roll, Exit Drills In The Home as well as many others.

  • Railroad Safety

Presented by Katie Kisner, CSX Transportation Community Affairs and Safety Manager-Northern Region

Children will learn the dangers associated with railroad tracks and the importance of staying

clear of the tracks.

  • Maryland State Police Medevac Helicopter

Presented by 1st. Sgt. Walter Kerr, MSP Aviation

The children will learn about the many roles the MSP helicopter and its crew perform on a daily basis. The children will get an up close tour of this amazing aircraft.

  • Stranger Danger

Presented by: Rick Allen

The Stranger Danger Awareness Program is a fun and memorable interactive educational program that teaches children how to be “street smart” about strangers and internet safety. It is adapted from guidelines provided by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation

Photographs will be taken during the 3 days of camp for the Level VFC’s history books and website stories. Northeast Photo Network, Inc. will take a group panoramic photo on Thursday. Order forms will be sent home with your child on Wednesday. For each photo purchased Safety Camp will receive a $5 donation. Please indicate your preference for your child’s photograph to be taken.
