Course Description: This course is designed to be an advanced study of the human body for students with an interest in pursuing a
career in a health-related field. Topics include anatomical structures, physiological systems, and body functions. Students will apply the principles of physiology to human health and evaluate the applications and career implications of physiology and anatomy principles. Anatomy and Physiology includes at least 40% hands-on laboratory investigations using appropriate scientific inquiries.
Grading Criteria:Major Assessments60%
Quizzes, TESTS and Projects. Major laboratory assignments may also be included.
Daily Work 40%
Daily assignments include lab work, textbook assignments, worksheets, online quizzes, clinical case studies and additional class activities.
Make-Up Work:Make-up work, due to student absences, is the responsibility of the student. Check absent work tray. Make-up work must be submitted in the appropriate amount of time.
ALL MAKEUP MAJOR QUIZZES AND TESTS MUST BE MADE UP IN THE AFTERSCHOOL TESTING ROOM IMMEDIATELY. CHECK STUDENT HANDBOOK.
LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!! Due dates on homework, class work, projects, etc. are firm.
Lab. Requirements:This course places an emphasis on experimentation involving observation and analysis of hands-on
investigations. Follow all lab safety rules. Serious misbehavior may result in removal from lab and loss of lab credit. A cat dissection will be the final lab of the year.
CLASS RULES:
1. Be on time. Be prepared. Be respectful to the learning environment. Be ready to work, cooperate and contribute. Being prepared for class includes bringing all required materials. Tardiness will not be accepted.
2. ALL BACKPACKS WILL BE LEFT AT THE FRONT OF THE ROOM UPON ENTERING. NO CELL PHONE USE DURING CLASS TIME.
3. All school and class rules will be followed. Discipline decisions will be made according to the student handbook.
4. This class will be conducted much like any college anatomy class, lecture based with many lab activities. You will have to take the majority of the responsibility for what you learn in this class. I will try to help you as much as I can, but you should be advised that my academic standards and expectations for this course are very high. I try to make them similar to the standards and expectations you will encounter in college to help prepare you for post-graduation study. You will be using the Pearson Textbook resource, located at our Anatomy & Physiology webpage, for daily studying and review.
5. You are responsible for all the reading in the chapters we cover even if I don’t talk about it in class. To make sure you are doing the reading, online quizzes will be submitted weekly (emailed) for daily grades and major quizzes in class will be taken twice per week. Quizzes range from 10 questions to possibly 30 questions.
6. Any test will be announced at least 2-3 school days before it will be given. If you are absent on test day but were present when the test was announced, you will take the test on the day you return to class.
7. There will be no extra credit in this course. Try your best the first time. If your grade doesn’t meet your expectations, try harder next time. Few college professors will allow you to do extra credit.
I have read the syllabus for Anatomy & Physiology class online and understand that eligibility requirements will be in effect for this class. Students must maintain a 70 or above each Six Weeks’ to be eligible for extracurricular activities.
