Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture

Guided Learning Courses

Ideal for those unable to attend the regular weekday courses, but more hands-on than distance learning/correspondence, -this enables students to receive full course notes, textbook, worksheets and mock exam papers as well as face-to-face tuition from expert tutors. Additional Tutorial support is via Emails, or work can be sent and returned by post.

Intensive START UP GUIDANCE REVISION DAYS for the Theory units are offered at Manea School of Gardening in small tutorial groups (maximum 6 learners). 6 hours per unit is included within the course fee. Additional hours available at £10/hour.

There is no time limit for studying the course, but note that course content may change slightly if carried into another academic year.

Theory examinations are in February and June, but entries need to be confirmed by the end of November and April.

Practical Certificate assessments are on various dates throughout the year

Exam Fees and Assessment Fees are INCLUDED in the course fees. Manea School of Gardening is an Approved centre for the RHS examinations and assessments, with all exams and assessments being held here.

RHS Level 3: Certificate in the Principles of Plant Growth, Health and Applied Propagation
• Plant taxonomy, structure and function
• The root environment, plant nutrition and growing systems
• The management of plant health
• Understanding applied plant propagation

RHS Level 3: Certificate in the Principles of Garden Planning, Construction & Planting
• Understanding garden survey techniques and design principles
• Understanding the selection and use of landscaping elements in the garden

• Understanding the setting out and construction of landscaping elements in the garden
• Understanding a range of specialist elements in the establishing of garden and urban plantings

RHS Level 3: Practical Certificate in Horticulture
• Collecting and testing soil samples and specifying adjustments for horticulture
• Collecting, preparing and propagating from seed
• Establishing and maintaining a range of plant types and forms
• Identification of a range of common garden plants, weeds, pests, diseases and disorders
• Management of green spaces, landscaped area, and ornamental gardens

Completion of both Theory certificates: RHS Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture

Completion of both Theory and the Practical certificate: RHS Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture

COST: £400 per Theory Certificate £1200 for full Diploma
