LETTER TO THE EDITOR BACK TO A GOD FEARING NATION

Donald R. Fox

INFORMATIONAL NOTE: The following letter to the editor was written and published over 20 years ago. You will note that the twenty years within our nation have increased in decaying morality to a shocking extent. Only a return to a God-Fearing nation will correct this current downward trend.

Return to the godly principles of the past.

To the Editor:

There has been much attention from all concerned citizens about crime, violence, especially among our youth. This problem must be addressed and whatever it takes to solve it, so be it.

We are, however, a nation of contradictions. We have liberal “bleeding hearts” pleading for the violent criminals and forgetting the innocent victims. We throw the key away on non-violent lawbreakers and have a “swinging door” policy for violent professional criminals. We allow prisoner inmates to file frivolous lawsuits, thus tying up our courts because “it’s my right.” This should not happen. Laws should be passed taking citizenship rights away (not their human rights, etc.). Criminals, in my opinion, lose their rights when they choose to be lawbreakers. People have the power to choose. If one selects a violent lifestyle, let him/her suffer the consequences.

Society, government and the news media are asking “why” and “what” can be done to stop violence, especially from our young people. Some say “gun control” as if this will be the sum of our problem and its solution. But are we not just reaping what we have sown as a nation? When I was young, the school and my father and mother taught the same value system. At school I was taught the three R’s, plus right and wrong. I was taught values, respect, obligations and the Golden Rule. Families had strong values and the parents, not the children, were in charge. We were programmed from youth that it was our duty to serve our country (via the draft or enlistment in the service, or other type of service). But now even our Surgeon General wants to teach sex education starting in kindergarten and issue condoms to older children. What nonsense!

Teach values and God-centered principles. They work; it was proven. Atheistic, humanistic, “do your own thing” philosophy does not work; let’s get rid of it. This liberal experiment does not work! Will our families, government, lawmakers, each one of us who love our children return to sound, stable thinking? Stop this nation-destroying experiment and, yes, back to a God-fearing country. God help us.
