Job Title:Marketing and Communications Manager

Salary:£25,000 - £35,000

Reports to:Director of Development

Location: Based on the CityHospital campus, with a requirement for the post holder to work from the QMC campus as required. The Trust operates a shuttle bus for this purpose.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Developmentwith a direct link to the CEO, the post-holder will have overall responsibility for leading on the development, implementation and evaluation of the Charity’s marketing and communications strategy. Using traditional and emerging communications channels, the post-holder will deliver marketingand communications activity to raise the profile of the Charity both internally and externally, contributing to the Charity’s plans to increase charitable income. The post-holder will also be responsible for all promotional activity. The role is also responsible for the line management of the Communications Officer.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications

  • To continue to develop, implement and evaluatethe long term Marketing and Communications Strategy and short term Annual Activity Plan. To set and monitor key objectives for all Charity communications.
  • To develop and implement a comprehensive marketing, communications and PR programme to support a fundraising initiative for Nottingham Children’s Hospital across all of Nottinghamshire
  • To ensure that the strategy is shared with the Director of Communications of Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUHT) to identify opportunities for collaboration; any issues are handled with diplomacy and with the full input of the Charity Director of Development and CEO. Good judgement and regular communication is required to ensure that there are no conflicting PR messages between the two organisations and opportunities are maximised for the benefit of both organisations.
  • To advise the CEO, and Director of Development and all Charity staff on all communications matters.
  • To manage the Communications Officer to deliver PR and communications activity.
  • To be the lead in initiating, writing, editing, proof reading and development of all Charity communication products including the production of appeal-specific leaflets, a twice-yearly newsletter and Annual Report.
  • To manage the planning and implementation of campaigns to publicise new appeals and fundraising initiatives with clearly identified communications objectives.
  • To identify and develop new ways of promoting the Charity across Nottinghamshire.
  • To advise on the development of new communication channels to promote the Charity and implement when relevant.
  • Support the fundraising team with the provision of copy required for Charity activities, sometimes at short notice.
  • Develop and maintain a photographic library of stock images, working with the NUHT Medical Photography team where necessary.
  • To work with the NUHT to ensure that the Charity is well represented internally in public areas, on internal TV networks, website and inpatient areas; to ensure that the Charity is well represented internally to staff, ensuring that communications are very active through staff targeted communications channels such as the intranet.
  • To monitor the deadlines of relevant NUHT publications and ensure the submission of suitable material for inclusion in every edition.
  • To lead in the procurement and contract management of external suppliers in relation to communications and marketing material when required.
  • To provide a monthly update on communications activity to the Director of Development and compile a quarterly communications report for the Board of Trustees.

Brand management

  • To develop the brand alongside the Director of Development and act as the brand guardian, monitoring all external communication activity to ensure it adheres to the Charity’s brand guidelines.
  • To lead on the identification of opportunities to increase exposure to the Charity’s brand and to build recognition.

Management of communication channels

  • To manage the Charity website ensuing it is up to date at all times with high quality, clear, accessible information. To advise on any design issues or upgrades as and when required.
  • Develop and manage social media feeds to maximise effectiveness. To identify any new digital opportunities and develop when appropriate.
  • To attend regional fundraising activities and events as part of the wider fundraising team to encourage donations and ensure that all PR opportunities are maximised.

Media relations

  • To be responsible for the writing and proof reading of press releases and other relevant articles.
  • To be the principal point of contact for the media, responding to any enquiries in a

timely manner and providing clear, accurate information to journalists.

  • To ensure that any risks to the Charity’s reputation are identified at an early stage and that the Charity is in a position to capitalise on any potential media opportunities.
  • To identify and cultivate new and existing case studies for use in publicity or fundraising materials or as lead stories for the local media.

Stakeholder relations

  • To forge excellent working relationships with a broad range of external stakeholders to optimise opportunities to raise the profile of the Charity and to increase support.
  • To work closely with communication colleagues in partner organisations to develop opportunities to publicise the work of the Charity.

Other

  • To organise and lead on the management of events when required and to represent the Charity at these events when required; to work with colleagues to assist in managing larger scale events.
  • To work within legal and charity guidelines.
  • To work with NUH Charity’s fundraising, administrative and IT systems and guidelines.
  • To represent NUH Charity internally and externally as required.
  • To undertake training and skills development and to keep up to date with the change of requirements of the role.
  • To undertake any other duties, which may be reasonably required.
  • To regularly work outside of office hours.
