Dear Grace,

What a beautiful Sunday we shared together! Thank you for warmly welcoming Rev. Tonya Lawrence as our new Associate Minister, Danielle Simpson as our intern from Candler School of Theology, and Jennifer Roberts as our Director of Community Engagement and thank you to each of them for sharing their gifts with us. We have a wonderful, Spirit-led year in store at Grace.

I’m including a note below from Pam Gwinner, Grace’s lay leader, about upcoming volunteer opportunities, beginning THIS SATURDAY September 7th. Please be in touch with her if you have questions or would like more information ().

Volunteer Opportunities

Let's Clean Our House Together….

Plans to give the common areas of Grace a little facelift are underway. Here is a list of the work to be done…..

  • Paint the corridors, stairs and reception areas of the 1st and 2nd floors.
  • Replace the various pews sitting in the common areas with inviting sitting areas.
  • Relocate the historical pictures along the 2nd floor corridor to Hargrove Hall and create the Grace Memorial Museum.
  • Update the 16 foot bulletin board in the corridor outside the Fellowship Hall.
  • Paint and recarpet the 2nd floor Conference Room
  • Paint and recarpet the Pastor's office.
  • Update…and correct….the directional signage on the 1st and 2nd floors.
  • Repair and repaint the mensroom on the first floor.

In preparation of the Homecoming event, plans to work Saturday, September 7, 14…and if necessary…the 21st are scheduled. It may not be possible to complete all the work prior to Homecoming, so we will start with Painting the 1st and 2nd floor common areas, relocating the historical pictures to Hargrove Hall and painting and recarpeting the Conference Room as Priority 1 and go as far as we can!

Painting volunteers are needed. Volunteers will need to come equipped with the following supplies:

  • Paint pans
  • Plastic drop cloth
  • One roll of blue painter's tape
  • Roller cover (9" 3/4'knapp)
  • Roller handle (short and long handles )

If painting is not your "cup of tea", you can still join in by….

  • Donating toward the purchase of paint. We anticipate the paint cost will be $800.
  • Providing lunch
  • Bring your spirit of Encouragement and cheer the worker bees on to the finish line!

We will begin at 9:30am and work until we run out of steam! What an honor and privilege to take care of God's gift of Grace.

Let's Feast with Old Friends……..

Robby Hollida is organizing lunch for the Homecoming Event (so we know it will be fabulous)…cnd Chef Jess has volunteered to cook the meat (so we know it will be delicious). Breaking bread together with old friends presents many volunteer opportunities….

  • Vegetables, desserts, bread, drinks….See the sign up sheet in the Narthex…and sign up or call the Grace office and let Susan know what you can bring!
  • Donate toward the cost of the meat. The cost is anticipated to be $250. In the spirit of Close Connections...if each Sunday School class donates $62 …the main course is provided!
  • Clean up….endless opportunities…just show up!

How blessed we are to have a large Fellowship Hall filled with tables and chairs for many…a Chef and a talented decorator/event planner extraordinaire with Christian hearts. Preparing for a Feast seems to be divinely orchestrated at Grace!

***************************

Donations for paint and meat can be given to Susan in the Grace office, or to Pam Gwinner and will be acknowledged with a receipt if desired. Final tallies of donations…and actual costs will be announced.

It's an exciting time to serve our Lord through Grace. You will want to be a part of it all…..

Peace and blessings to all…..

Thanks to Pam and Robby and Jess for leading these efforts and to all of you in advance for giving of your time! I look forward to seeing you for worship this Sunday at 11am, including a baptism, so think about who you can bring with you.

Grace and peace,

Kate
