  • Discuss the benefits of such activities.
  • Comprehend difference in choice of activities.

Preparation and Materials

  • Copies of Info Sheet and Activity Sheet for each student.
  • Blackboard/flipchart.

Method

  1. Explain the aims of the lesson using the learning outcomes on the info sheet.
  2. Brainstorm types of clubs and activities:

-in school

-out of school

  1. List them on the blackboard/flipchart.
  2. Ask what are the benefits of being involved in clubs and having hobbies?
  3. Ask why do different people pursue different interests? List the reasons on the blackboard/flipchart.
  4. From the responses draw out “personal” reasons such as interests, skills and qualities as well as “external” reasons such as parental interest, friends, proximity.
  5. Ask students to look through the examples on the Info Sheet and then complete the Activity Sheet.
  6. Encourage the students to share their responses with a partner when they have completed their list.
  7. Ask the students what they have learned from the lesson.
  8. Summarise the main learning outcomes.
