Lesson 4.2 – Teacher Notes

The following information is provided to aid the teacher when instructing Lesson 4.2 Engineering Design Ethics.

General Discussion Items:

Plastics fall into two major categories: thermosets which cannot be remelted or reprocessed (only recycled as a filler material), and thermoplastics that can be remelted and reused.

Have the students locate the recycle symbols of #1 (PETE) and #2 (HDPE) found on the bottom of plastic items. Have students research what they mean and discuss as a class.

Activity 4.2.2 - Recycling
