¿  Do Dreamweaver Lessons 1-3 to create a web page

II.  Identify Web sites

Choose one of the site categories. Surf the Web to find examples. Try to find two sites that are different from each other even though they fit into the same category. For example, e-Bay and Apple’s Web sites are both commercial, but one is a retail site and the other is a corporate site.

Evaluate the two Web sites and draw a four-column table like the one below on your Dreamweaver sub-page Lesson1: Fundamentals of Web Design using the directions in Dreamweaver Lesson 4: Creating a Table. Fill in the following information:

¿  What category do the Web sites fit into?

¿  What subcategory can they be classified as?

¿  What web elements do the sites contain?

Write a few sentences below the chart describing the differences and similarities between the Web sites. Link each site (1 and 2) to the online Web site URL using the directions in Dreamweaver Lesson 5: Linking to Online Resources.

III.  Use Online Resources

In this assignment you are going to research the history of the Internet and of the Web. The information you find in your research will be posted on a new sub-page.

1.  Create the new sub-page titled History of the Internet using what you have learned from Lesson 3: Creating Sub-pages.

2.  On the Lesson 1 sub-page Fundamentals of Web Design place the insertion point after the last line of text that describes the differences and similarities between the web sites. Press Return.

3.  Type History of the Internet.

4.  Link the text History of the Internet to the new sub-page you created with that same title.

5.  On the sub-page History of the Internet:

1.  Summarize how the Internet and the Web have evolved.

2.  Identify one current issue related to the use of online resource (for example, the issue of online privacy)

3.  Evaluate how your chosen issue has affected society either positively or negatively. Provide two or three examples to support and illustrate your evaluation.

4.  Describe potential solutions to reduce the negative effects of the issue.

IV.  Evaluate Software

In this assignment you are going to evaluate software by researching Web site development application that are currently available using the Web or software catalogs. Again you will need to create a new sub-page to post your findings.

1.  Create a new sub-page titled Software Evaluation using what you have learned from Lesson 3: Creating Sub-pages.

2.  On the Lesson 1 sub-page Fundamentals of Web Design place the insertion point after the text History of the Internet. Press Return.

3.  Type Software Evaluation.

4.  Link the text Software Evaluation to the new sub-page you created with that same title.

5.  On the sub-page Software Evaluation research to learn about the following software:

¿  Macromedia Dreamweaver

¿  Microsoft FrontPage

¿  Adobe GoLive

¿  HoTMetal.Pro

6.  Create a table like the one below to compare and contrast these different applications. In your table, note the system requirements, features, and price for each specific application. Compare and contrast your findings. Finally, predict which individuals or organization might choose to use each application to complete specific tasks.

V.  Understand Copyright and Trademarks

In this assignment you are going to identify the Terms of Use for three large software companies such as Microsoft or Macromedia reading the Terms of Use Web page from each site. Again you will need to create a new sub-page to post your findings.

1.  Create a new sub-page titled Understand Copyright and Trademarks using what you have learned from Lesson 3: Creating Sub-pages.

2.  On the Lesson 1 sub-page Fundamentals of Web Design place the insertion point after the text Software Evaluation. Press Return.

3.  Type Understanding Copyright and Trademarks.

4.  Link the text Understanding Copyright and Trademarks to the new sub-page you created with that same title.

5.  On the sub-page Understanding Copyright and Trademarks create a table to compare Terms of Use listed on the three sites.

6.  In the table, list what is similar and what is different on all three sites.

7.  Select one term of use that is found on all three sites. Explain why you think this one term is important to all three companies under the table.

Post your Web site and send the URL to your instructor.
