2:30 – 4:30 Priorities & Expressions of Interest

Participants worked in small groups to identify key priorities for CCCDA/our sector. The following summarizes priorities identified and people willing/ready to work on them.

1.  Branding/Marketing & Communication – there was considerable interest and energy around increasing the profile and perceived value of field.

a.  Common language (also linked to The Profession below), social media, communication plan for stakeholders, forum to promote communication/exchange

i.  Sharon Graham, Scott Fisher, Donnalee Bell, Mark Franklin, Gail Langlais, Suzanne Klinga, Phil Jarvis, Sharon Cameron, Lorraine Katanik, Clarence deShiffart, Catherine Stephens, Nancy Arthur, Lynne Bezanson, Krista Benes, Paul Smith

b.  Public speaking (service clubs, conferences)

i.  Jessica Isenor, Roberta Neault, Sharon Cameron, Tina Sirois-Leblanc, Lorraine Katanik, Paula Wischoff-Yerama

c.  User/citizen consultations to inform us

i.  Scott Fisher, Lynne Bezanson, Sharon Cameron

d.  Develop our value proposition (Evidence-Based Research/Phil Jarvis)

i.  Gail Langlais

e.  Promote value of all work (get rid of academic snobbery)

i.  Gray Poehnell

f.  Contest to get ideas on how to promote the field

i.  Laurie Unrau, Sharon Cameron, Paula Wischoff-Yerama

2.  Certification – there is strong commitment to build greater clarity and cohesion with respect to certification across provinces and internationally.

a.  Inter-provincial coordination, cohesion and mobility

i.  Céline Renald, Tina Sirois-Leblanc, Sharon Cameron, Scott Fisher

b.  Alignment of provincial certifications with international certifications (GCDF, EVGP)

i.  Paul Smith, Jessica Isenor, Roberta Neault

c.  GCDF Canada

i.  Roberta Neault, Bryan Hiebert

3.  Training – CCCDA has a role in providing a “hub” of information on training linked to certification (related to #8 below) and there is a gap re: training for supervisors.

a.  Review training leading to provincial certifications

i.  Roberta Neault, Sharon Graham, Paula Wischoff-Yerama

b.  Training for supervisors

i.  Nancy Arthur, Roberta Neault, Suzanne Klinga, Tannis Goddard, Laurent Matte, Jessica Isenor

4.  The Profession – there was strong interest in bringing clarity to the key roles in our field and the distinct role of career development practitioners.

a.  Define roles

i.  Gregg Taylor, Sharon Graham, Paula Wischoff-Yerama, Lynne Bezanson

b.  Develop competency matrix

i.  Laurent Matte, Sharon Graham

c.  Educational foundations for various roles (also linked to Training)

i.  Laurent Matte, Céline Renald, Paula Wischoff-Yerama

5.  Membership – originally, CCCDA was envisioned as a forum for collaboration across associations with the open invitation to other key stakeholders to be involved if they saw merit. It seems that it has quickly evolved into something bigger – an industry-wide council which could actively engage only associations, but also much wider range of members including other career development organizations, PSEs and provincial governments. It was suggested that CCCDA should perhaps become CCCC (The Canadian Career Development Council).

a.  Clarify and extend – include all provinces, wider range of CD stakeholders

i.  Sharon Graham, Clarence deShiffart, Lynne Bezanson, Paul Smith, Paula Wischoff-Yerama

b.  Involving CERIC

i.  Norm Amundson, Bryan Hiebert, Gregg Taylor

6.  National Career Development Framework – we have pockets of provincial Career Development Frameworks, but no coordinating body across jurisdictions to develop and promote a national framework.

a.  Promote national policy cohesion, identify common career development challenges in Canada

i.  Mark Franklin, Donnalee Bell, Sharon Graham, Paul Smith, Krista Benes

7.  Standards & Guidelines – this has been a significant focus of CCCDA in its initial year and there is strong support to continue as the “home” for the S & Gs.

a.  Taking Charge

i.  Sharon Cameron, Lynne Bezanson

b.  Promote leading use of the S & Gs

i.  Tina Sirois-Leblanc, Catherine Stephens

8.  CCCDA – “Hub” for excellence – CCCDA could play a “clearinghouse” function for Canadian resources and, potentially, serve as the “home” for the Blueprint for Life/Work Designs.

a.  Hub for best practices and Canadian career development resources – including the Blueprint for Life/Work Designs

i.  Tina Sirois-Leblanc, Gail Langlais, Phil Jarvis, Clarence deShiffart

9.  International Presence – the 2011 Action Plan will need support and a process needs to be developed for forming future Canada Teams.

a.  International Symposium – Canada Team

i.  Nancy Arthur, Phil Jarvis, Jessica Isenor, Lynne Bezanson

10.  Steering Committee – The SC is open to anyone interested in participating. In addition to those who have been active this past year, Clarence deShiffart offered to contribute.

11.  Incorporation – This was deferred by the Steering Committee in 2011 as it carried with it administrative/financial burdens and the mission/structure of CCCDA was still clearly evolving. Bryan Hiebert urged CCCDA to not defer it much longer and offered to be involved in action on this.
