Leon Levy Preserve – Hiking Suggestions

The preserve has approximately 4.75 miles of hiking trails within its 370 acres and offers many diverse hiking possibilities. Here are a few. All hiking loops start at Route 123 parking area kiosk. Trail loops can feel and look much different when hiked in the reverse direction – give it a try.Portions of many trails include moderate or steep hills. Junction numbers refer to numbers on trees at trail junctions, and as shown on trail map as a black number adjacent to a red arrow.

Quick Loop – Shortest trail loop in preserve. Go right (N) at junction 1, uphill on blue trail. Turn left (SW) at junction 2, staying on blue trail. Go left (S) onto white trail at junction 19. Go right (E) at junction 1 to parking area. Approximately 0.9 mile

Quick Loop (in reverse) plus Cottage Trail– Go left (S) at junction 1 onto white trail. At junction 19 turn right (NE) on blue trail. Turn left (W) at junction 23 onto pink (Cottage Trail), pass small cottage ruins. Turn right (NE) at junction 4 onto yellow trail and pass Black Mansion ruins. Go left (NE) on blue trail at junction 3, turn right (E) at junction 2 returning to parking area via blue trail. Approximately 1.0 mile

West Valley Loop –Remote deep valley on far west side of the preserve. Crosses 2 small streams. Go right (N) at junction 1,uphill on blue. Turn left (SW) at junction 2, staying on blue trail, go right (NW) on yellow trail at junction 3. Go right (N) onto green trail at junction 5. Stay slightly right (W) at junction 7 onto purple trail. You’re now entering west valley. Cross 2 stream bridges. Proceed uphill, turn left (E) at junction 8, continuing on purple trail. Turn left (NE) onto yellow/purple trail at junction 9. At junction 20 turn right (E) onto yellow trail. At junction 13, go left (E) onblue trail. Return to kiosk via blue trail, then turn right (S) on white trail at junction 19. Approx. 2.1 miles

Gorge Overlook Trail Loop – Views of gorge from 75 feet above. Take white and blue trails to junction 14. Go left (S) on silver Gorge Overlook Trail Loop. Bear right(SW) at junction 16 to upper Gorge Overlook, then turn right (S) at junction17 for Lower Gorge Overlook short spur trail. Return to blue trail at Junction18. Going left (N) is shorter. Going straight (E) at junction 18 is longer loop back. Approximately 1.5 miles

South Gorge Rim Trail Loop – Offers gorge viewing areas fromopposite rim. Go and return via white and blue trails and turn left atjunction 12 or 13, then turn left. Approx. 1.6 miles

Blue/Yellow Trail Loop –Original preserve loop trail. Take blue trail uphill, go right (NW) on yellow trail at junction 3. Continue on yellow trail, at junction 13 go left (E) on blue trail. Return to kioskby going right (S) on white trail. Approximately 1.7 miles
