Summary (to be discussed at LADG meeting 13 July 2009)

A status report was issued and used as the basis of discussion. Matters discussed and actions arising:

LADG

  • New constitution - Paul Moseley said that the representation of the new LADG management committee should cover all stake-holders.
  • After MUCH discussion, LEAF members recommended that, initially, each club should have one representative on the new LADG management committee.
  • NB only one representative per club, and must attend in person to vote.
  • LADG should review after one or two meetings whether the number of attendees is unmanageable.
  • The new management committee should be operational by Autumn.
  • Bob Jackson highlighted items on Action Plan, planned for completion in 2009, which were relevant to clubs.

Clubs

  • Club Mark – Pudsey Pacers – still making progress and hoping to submit by end of 2009.
  • Grants - cheques have now been sent to those who applied (there was sufficient to satisfy all requests). There will be no grants in 2009.
  • Courses - many clubs required “Leadership in Running Fitness” course (previously known as Jog Leader). Only one course is currently available in Yorkshire. Paul Moseley to email clubs to ask how many courses still required (NB some clubs will already have taken these courses), with the view to one being organized in Leeds.
  • Courses - some clubs required “Level 1” course. This course is currently being rewritten and will not be available till September.
  • Partnerships of clubs / athletics networks – Paul’s view was that all clubs in Leeds should become, in UK Athletics terms, one big Athletics Network.
  • England Athletics – Paul would be meeting Andy Lee (Northern manager) on Friday 4 July.

Races

  • Run Britain website includes online permit application (awaiting feedback).
  • Officials – level 2 courses will be available from Autumn 2009.
  • First Aid – information about St John and British Red Cross available – Red Cross also provide first aid training.
  • NEW ITEM (added after meeting) – RunBritain roadshow hosted by Pierce O’Callaghan and John Temperton will be at North of England offices Wednesday 15 July 6:30pm to 8:30pm

UK Athletics Rule Book

  • suggestions for amendments need to be submitted by 31 July. Andrew Gardner and Bob Jackson had 5 suggestions for improvement which were discussed (some in detail) and it was agreed to “forward” these to LADG
  • Rule 3 requiring unattached runners to join clubs after 12 months is unenforceable, better to relax rule e.g. unattached runners should join a club after 12 months or 12 races whichever is the sooner.
  • Rule 17/212/222 regarding wearing club colours in races is too slack – athletes should wear club colours in all races (e.g. and a race organiser has the right to exclude runners from prizes if not doing so)
  • Rule 21 regarding assistance should be qualified – does this include GPS (or even watches!)
  • Rule 216(4) is an error
  • Rules 7/207/507 regarding age-groups of under 13’s and under 11’s - in cross country, an under 13 is school year 7, 8 and 6 if they have reached 11 on race day) – should be amended that if there is an under 11 competition, then year 6 should run in the under 11.

Leeds half marathon

  • Several clubs had provided volunteers. It was expected that clubs would receive £5 per volunteer but volunteers had been sent a letter saying that a donation had been sent to charity on their behalf. Kirkstall had complained about this and received the money.
  • Date of next race 9 May 2010.
