Prosthesis:-

An artificial replacement of an absent part of human body.

Prosthodontic:-

The branch of dentistry pertaining to the restoration and maintenance of oral functional, comfort, appearance, and health of patient by the restoration of the natural teeth and /or the replacement of missing teeth contiguous oral and maxillofacial tissue with artificial substitute.

Restoration:-

A broad term applied to any material or prosthesis that restores or replaces lost teeth.

Denture :-

An artificial substitute for missing natural teeth and the adjacent tissues.

Partial Denture :-

A dental prosthesis that restores one or more but not all to the natural teeth and /or associated tissues and it is supported by teeth and/or residual ridge, it may be removable or fixed.

Removable Partial Denture:-

A partial denture that can be removed from the mouth and replaced as the patient will.

Free End Extension RPD:-

It is supported and retained by by natural teeth at one end of the denture base segment and in which a portion of the functional load is carried by residual ridge.

Immediate Denture:-

A complete or RPD fabricated to replace removed natural tooth or teeth immediately.

Fixed Partial Denture:-

Abutments:-

Height of Contour :-

A line encircling the tooth and designating its greatest circumference at a selected position determined by a dental surveyor.

Dental Cast Surveyor:-

A paralleling instrument used in dental lab in construction of PRD, used to determine or locate the tooth height of contour and relative position of abutments and mark the survey line.

Survey Line:-

A line marked on the cast by surveyor marker showing the greatest prominence of contour of the crown of the tooth in relation to the planned path of placement of a restoration.

Undercut Area:-

The portion of the surface of an abutment that is beyond the height of contour in relationship to the path of placement getting areas provide mechanical retention for the placed prosthesis.

Guiding Planes:-

Vertical parallel surfaces of abutment teeth oriented so as to contribute to the direction of the path of placement and removal of RPD.

Retainer :-

Any part of the prosthesis act for stability and / or retention of the prosthesis.

Clasp Assembly:-
