Purchasing Annual Leave

You can apply to purchase up to 10 days additional leave (pro rata) each year. You can apply at any point within the year, to be paid back within the same Financial Year. All requests must be agreed by your Line Manager and forwarded to Human Resources. More information on the policy for Purchasing Annual Leave and the application form can be obtained via the intranet.

Banking Annual Leave

You can apply to Bank up to 5 days leave (pro rata) each year providing you have had 28 days leave (pro rata for part time staff) in the leave year. You can carry forward and build up banked leave up to a maximum of 15 days (pro rata). Once there are 15 days (prorata) banked, some or all of this must be taken within the next Financial year. All requests must be agreed by your Line Manager and forwarded to Human Resources. More information on the policy for Banking leave and the application form can be obtained via the intranet.

Sickness while on Annual leave

If you have leave booked and are ill before it commences, you can cancel the leave and it will still be available to you. If you are absent due to sickness and wish to book annual leave, it should be applied for and supported by a letter from your doctor (see the Sickness Absence Guidelines). It will be classed as annual leave and not sickness absence. If neither of these apply and you are ill while on leave, you may be credited back your Annual Leave but only if certain criteria are met and only on the production of a medical certificate. This will be looked at on a case by case basis.

Carry forward of leave

If you wish to carry forward a maximum of 3 days (pro rata) Annual Leave into the following year, please complete Section 4 on the first page.
