Create an Institutional Supplied Skill (ISS)

You can create your own Institutional Supplied Skill (ISS) from a skill’s template. This ISS can include Categories, Specialties, Keywords, Quick Sheet, Check List, Supplies, Tests and Extended Text. You cannot create demonstrations and illustrations for the ISS.

Steps to Edit a Skill

1.  Click the Skills – Add/Edit Skills.
The ‘Mosby’s Nursing Skills – Search’ page opens.

2.  Click the ‘Create a New Skill’ link on the left.

3.  Click OK.

4.  Click the Close this Window button.
Your ISS opens.

5.  From the General tab, complete the following as needed:

·  Change the name of the selected skill; edit the name from ‘Skill Name’.

·  From ‘Active’, keep No selected. (Active Skills are available for Learners.) Once the skill is ready for Learners, change the Active radio button to ‘Yes’. You will be reminded to do so at the end of these steps.

·  Optional. If you want to include a ‘Nursing Alert’, (will display above the text content) change the default to ‘Yes’ and add the ‘Nursing Alert’ text in the text box.

·  Optional. If you want to add a ‘Summary’, type the summary in the text box.

·  Optional. If you want to add ‘Version History Comments’, type the comments in the text box. These version history comments will be displayed in the version history details page for this skill. The comments will help you identify the changes you made at a later date.

·  Click the Save button in the lower right. Confirm, click OK.

6.  Click the Categories tab to add or delete one or more additional categories (e.g., cardiac) to associate with the skill.

·  To add one category from the left, click the Category you want to include for the skill. Click the right arrow button. Your selection displays in the right pane and is now assigned to the skill. If you want to add more than one category, hold down your CTRL key, and select the Categories on the left you want to add to the skill. Release the CTRL key when you have finished your selections. Click the right arrow button. Your selections will display in the right pane and be added to the skill.

·  To remove one category from the selected skill, click the category you want to remove from the right pane. Click the left arrow. The category moves from the right pane to the left and is removed from the selected skill. If you want to remove more than one category, hold down your CTRL key, and select the categories on the right you want to remove from the selected skill. Release the CTRL key when you have finished your selections. Click the left arrow button. The categories move from the right pane and are removed from the selected skill.

·  To create a category, enter the name of the category in the ‘Add New’ text box and click the Add New button. You can now add the new category to the selected skill.

·  To delete a category, select the category from the list on the left, and click the Delete button.

7.  Click the Specialties tab to add or delete one or more specialties (e.g., Emergency) associated with the selected skill.

·  To add one specialty from the left, click the specialty you want to include for the skill. Click the right arrow button. Your selection displays in the right pane and is now assigned to the skill. If you want to add more than one specialty, hold down your CTRL key, and select the specialties on the left you want to add to the selected skill. Release the CTRL key when you have finished your selections. Click the right arrow button. Your selections display in the right pane and are added to the skill.

·  To remove one specialty from the selected skill, click the specialty you want to remove from the left pane. Click the left arrow. The specialty removes from the right pane and from the selected skill. If you want to remove more than one category, hold down your CTRL key, and select the specialty on the right you want to remove from the selected skill. Release the CTRL key when you have finished your selections. Click the left arrow button. The specialties move from the right pane and are removed from the selected skill.

·  To create a specialty: type the specialty in the text box to the left of the ‘Add New’ button. Click the Add New button. You can now add the new specialty to the skill.

·  To delete a specialty, click the specialty from the list on the left. Click the Delete button. The specialty will list below. Click the Delete button again.

8.  Click the Keywords tab to add, edit and delete keywords you think a Learner might use to find/search for a skill. If you want to edit a keyword, it must be deleted and then re-entered.

·  To add a keyword, type a keyword in the ‘Add New’ text box. Click Add New button.

·  To delete a keyword, click the keyword and click the Delete button.

·  To edit a keyword, delete, then re-enter the new version of the keyword.

9.  Click the Quick Sheet. You can add and edit a quick sheet.

Tip: You can copy and paste from your own document (e.g., Microsoft Word) into this customized content.

Note: If you want to see the latest Mosby’s content choose: “Click here to open a window with the latest Mosby's content” located below the Save & Cancel buttons at the bottom of the page.

·  Add/edit text as needed using the word processing tools.

·  Optional. Add ‘Version History Comments’ in the text box. These comments display in the version history to help identify the changes you did to this skill at a later date.

·  Click the Save button.

10. Click the Check List. You can add and edit a check list.

·  To Add an Item to the Check List: Enter text for the item from the ‘Text’ box below.
Click the Save button. Continue to add more items in the check list as needed. Click Save button. Confirm your answer with an ‘OK. Your check list displays above with the new item(s) added. Tip: If you want the Item in the checklist to be a specific number order on the list, click the ‘order in list’ drop-down, and select the number you want the Item to list as. The Item inserts at the selected number, and any numbers below renumber appropriately. Edit a check list: From the check list to make the necessary changes, click the item's name. The checklist item displays at the bottom of the text box. Make the necessary changes to the check list item (this can include changing the order number of the Item) and click Save and confirm with OK. Use the scroll bar if necessary to view the check list near the top of the page to review your changes.

·  Optional. Add ‘Version History Comments’ in the text box. These comments display in the version history to help you identify the changes you did to this skill at a later date. Click Save button.

11. Delete a check list Item: From the check list click the Item's name. The check list item displays in the text box below. Click the Delete button. The number order automatically re-calculates appropriately. NOTE: If you want to see the latest Mosby’s content choose: “Click here to open a window with the latest Mosby's content.” located below the Save & Cancel buttons at the bottom of the page. Click the Supplies. You and add and edit a Supply list.

·  Add or edit text as needed using the word processing tools.

Tip: You can copy and paste from your own document (e.g., Microsoft Word) into this content.

·  Optional. Add ‘Version History Comments’ in the Version History Comments. These comments will be visible to you in the version history so they will help you what changes you did to this skill at a later date.

·  NOTE: If you want to see the latest Mosby’s content choose: “Click here to open a window with the latest Mosby's content.” located below the Save & Cancel buttons at the bottom of the page.

·  Click Save. Confirm OK.

12. Click the Test. You can add, edit and delete questions. Questions can be any combination of multiple choice, true/false and yes/no questions.

·  To add a multiple choice question: Click the Add button below. (The next available question number displays.) From ‘Type’, select Multiple Choice. From 'Question' enter the question. There can be only one 'Correct' answer, so decide if you want it to be A, B, C. or D. Enter answers into A, B, C and D, making one question the correct answer. From ‘Correct Answer’, click the radio button for the correct answer (A, B, C or D). You have the option to add comments in the ‘Version History Comments’. These comments display in the version history to help you identify the changes you made to this skill at a later date. Click the Save button. Confirm, click the OK button. Move to the top of the page and use your scroll bar if necessary to view the new question page. To continue adding multiple choice questions, click the Add button and continue to add additional questions as needed.

Tip: If you want the question to be a specific number order on the list, click the ‘order in list’ drop-down, and select the number you want the question to list as. The question inserts at the selected number, and any numbers below renumber appropriately.

·  To edit a multiple choice question: From the test questions and answers list at the top of the page, click the question you want to edit. The questions and answer displays below the questions listed at the top. From the Question and Answers, edit the question and answer(s) as needed. From the ‘Correct Answer’, edit the radio button (A, B, C or D) for the correct answer if needed. You have the option to add comments in the Version History Comments. These comments display in the version history to help you identify the changes you made to this skill at a later date. Click the Save button. Confirm, click the OK button. Use your scroll bar if necessary to view the edited question near the questions listed at top of the page. To continue editing test questions, move back to the top of the page, from the list of questions, click the next question you want to edit.

Tip: If you want the question to be a specific number order on the list, click the ‘order in list’ drop-down, and select the number you want the question to list as. The question inserts at the selected number, and any numbers below renumber appropriately.

·  To delete a multiple choice question: From the test questions and answers list at the top of the page, click the question you want to delete. The questions and answer displays below the questions listed at the top. Move to the bottom of the screen and click the Delete button on the right. The number order automatically re-calculates appropriately.

·  To add a true/false question: Click the Add button below. (The next available question number displays.) From the Type drop-down below, select True/False. (The page refreshes.) From the ‘Question’ text box, type the true or false question. From ‘Correct Answer’, click the radio button for True or False for the correct answer. You have the option to add comments in the ‘Version History Comments’. These comments display in the version history to help you identify the changes you made to this skill at a later date. Click the Save button. Confirm, click the OK button. Use your scroll bar if necessary to view the question. To continue adding true/false questions, click the Add button and continue to add additional questions as needed.

·  To edit a true/false question: From the test questions and answers list at the top of the page, click the question you want to edit. You have the option to add comments in the ‘Version History Comments’. These comments display in the version history to help you identify the changes you made to this skill at a later date. Click the Save button. Confirm, click the OK button. Use your scroll bar if necessary to view the edited question near the questions listed at top of the page. To continue editing test questions, move back to the top of the page, from the list of questions, click the next question you want to edit.

·  To delete a true/false question: From the test questions and answers list at the top of the page, click the question you want to delete. The question and answer displays below the questions listed at the top. Click the Delete button. The number order automatically re-calculates appropriately.

·  To add a yes/no question: Click the Add button below. (The next available question number displays.) From ‘Type’, select Yes/No. (The page refreshes.) From 'Question' enter the yes or no question. From ‘Correct Answer’, click the radio button for Yes or No for the correct answer. You have the option to add comments in the Version History Comments. These comments display in the version history to help you identify the changes you made to this skill at a later date. Click the Save button. Confirm, click the OK button. Use your scroll bar if necessary to view the question in the question and answer list near the top of the page. To continue adding yes/no questions, click the Add button and continue to add additional questions as needed.
