1.1 / Participate under supervision in enabling the older person to maintain independence.
1.2 / Participate under supervision in the protection of self-esteem of the older person.
1.3 / Recognise the importance of the concepts of advocacy and empowerment in protecting the rights of the older person.
1.4 / Recognise the ethical issues associated with the care of the older person, such as consent, use of restraint and decision making processes.

2.2 / Identify the effects of economic/social circumstances on health.
2.3 / Discuss how the Public Health Nurse/ Community Based Nurse receives information from a hospital about newly discharged patients and outline the importance of discharge planning.
