Dear Parent/ Guardian,

Lincoln Middle School, along with Washington Middle School, will be embarking on our third annual One School, One Book program. Thanks to the generosity of the Meriden Public School System, every middle school student in the district will receive his/her own brand-new copy of this special book. This book is to be read at home and in school beginning Friday, January 16th through February 13th. We are asking for your support to make sure your child participates in the reading of this book.

Reading at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be a more effective reader. It is also a fun, worthwhile activity. With the One School, One Book program, we aim to build a community of readers at our school. Everyone: students, teachers, custodians, office staff as well as the administration will be participating, and we will all reap the many benefits.

Your child will receive a copy of the book after a special assembly introducing the program on Friday, January 16th. You are welcome to attend a book reveal assembly. Please see your child's grade level assembly time below. Until then, the title of the book will be a secret as we build suspense at our school. Along with the book, students will be receiving a reading calendar to keep all students consistently reading the same pages at the same time. In school, your child will be invited to answer trivia questions every Wednesday and Friday to further encourage his/her enthusiasm and participation. Each child will have the opportunity to win some exciting prizes if they answer the trivia questions correctly. You will soon find that your child will take pride in knowing and anticipating the details of the story. During school there may be various activities which discuss or explore the book. You will want to make sure your child keeps up so he/she can be included. Throughout the months of January and February, everyone will be talking about this book!

One School, One Book is a unique opportunity because students at all three grade levels, as well as all LMS faculty and staff, will be reading the same book. We believe you can and should continue to encourage your child to read chapter books on a regular basis. We have selected a title for all students, parents, and teachers to enjoy at the middle school level.

We hope that you will spend time discussing the book with your child. With your help, we can build a community of readers at Lincoln Middle School. Good luck and happy reading!

January 16th Assembly Schedule:

Grade 6: 8:50

Grade 7: 8:10

Grade 8: 9:40

Sincerely,

Dianne Vumback
