WORK PROGRESS COMPONENT OF ADVISOR TRACKING SYSTEM

MILESTONE TRACKING

(1) Teacher team or individual teacher unit planning

Data entered:

·  unit title

·  unit “Milestones” (the number of these can vary according to unit)

(A Unit Milestone could be a piece of work submitted, a task completed, a competency checked off, a workshop attended, but gives an indication of how the student is progressing through the unit)

E.g. Unit title: Identity Inquiry

Unit Milestones: MICUPS survey

Pre-interview research

Interview

Journal completion

Digital Story “The Story of Me”

(2) Interface the teacher would then see

The Milestones for the unit would need to be ticked off by teachers as students achieve them. (Using a simple interface with check boxes)

E.g. Identity Inquiry

MICUPS survey / ü
Pre-interview research / ü
Interview
Journal completion
Digital Story “The Story of Me”

(Some way of indicating concerns about lack of progress to the advisor. Maybe a drop down menu with “late”, “incomplete”, “lack of effort” or some other options for teacher to easily check off)

(3) Interface the Advisor would see

The Advisor would see a graphic representation of progression through each unit the student does. This has the dates automatically generated from when the teacher checks off the accomplishment of the Milestone.

E.g.

VELS TRACKING

(1) Teacher Teams/Individual Teachers enter the VELS for a Unit

Teacher teams and individual teachers use a simple system (such as Rob Costello’s VELS Audit Tool) to check off the VELS that will be assessed in a particular unit.

E.g.

Identity- Inquiry
VELS dimension 1
VELS dimension 2 / a
VELS dimension 3
VELS dimension 4 / a
VELS dimension 5 / a
VELS dimension 6
VELS dimension 7 / a
VELS dimension 8 / a
VELS dimension 9
VELS dimension 10

(2) Interface the teacher would then see

The VELS entry above therefore generates an interface for teachers that looks like:

VELS dimension 4 □

VELS dimension 5 □

VELS dimension 7 □

VELS dimension 8 □
