LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
A positive school ethos and rich learning environment that is open, respectful, caring and safe optimises learning through a commitment to wellbeing.
Wallumbilla P – 10 State School does this by:
  • Having an explicit positive school ethos through the vision statement – ‘every student achieving every day in a safe, supportive and engaging learning environment’.
  • All members of the school community assuming a role in the pastoral care of of all students.
  • Responding to students individual needs through identification and appropriate referral systems.
  • Providing learning experiences through a variety of pedagogical approaches (especially explicit instruction).
  • Providing opportunities for all students to participate in extra-curricula activities that suit their interests and abilities.
  • Consistently applying positive behaviour processes outlined in the schools responsible behaviour plan for students.
  • Actively teaching students what positive behaviour looks like using the 4 B’s matrix.
  • Having a structured support program for students that meets academic, social, emotional and cultural needs.
  • Continuous contact with a range of professionals who support school staff in the provision of learning and other needs for all students from Prep to Year 10.
  • Regular conact with parents to maintain positive partenerships for the furtherance of student achievement and a positive learning environment for all.

Wallumbilla P – 10 State School does this by:
  • Providing differentiated curriculum opportunities to meet identified students needs.
  • Providing seamless transition between primary and high school year levels through the sharing of staff skills and timetabling practices.
  • Catering for students diverse needs through explicit pedagogy and accurate data collection and tracking.
  • Identifying individual learning goals for all students in literacy and numeracy to sharpen the focus for individuals.
  • Providing regular feedback to students on achievements and learning progress through a variety of strategies.
  • Explicitly teaching skills of problem solving, conflict resolution and teamwork through positive behaviour lessons related to the 4 B’s.
  • Providing opportunities for community and school participation and service beyond the classroom – via students council and other local community groups or initiatives.
  • Staff continually engaging in high quality PD to enhance their skills and knowledge in pedagogy and identified key school priorities.
  • Engaging the wider school community in school events and information sessions to develop positive partnerships and mutual respect.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Policy intentions are transformed into action by school staff, students and the wider community.
Wallumbilla P – 10 State School does this by:
  • Implementing consistently a policy of inclusive educational opportunity for all students.
  • The school actively teaches responsible and appropriate behaviours to students and has reward processes in place to support students.
  • Students are provided with opportunities through the student council to influence school decision making where it relates to student wellbeing and support.
  • The school maintains close and positive relationships with an active and involved P & C Association.
  • Staff have been trained in and implemented programs such as THRASS, explicit teaching; First Steps in Reading and First Aid / CPR.
  • Extra curricula sports and fitness activities are actively offered and provided to students.
  • The school reviews and discusses students behaviour regularly through staff and P & C meeting structures.
  • Parents and community are regularly asked to provide input into the review of school programs, policies and procedures.
/ PARTNERSHIPS
Productive partnerships expand the knowledge, skills and resources available in the school
Wallumbilla P – 10 State School does this by:
  • Working with Maranoa Health Enhancement Program to deliver programs such as Cyberbullying to students and parents.
  • The school newsletter is widely distributed throughout the community and contains many local news / community items.
  • The school maintains active and positive partnerships with local community groups such as the Show Society, Campdraft Association, Mens Shed, CWA and SES.
  • The school provides students with regular access to extra support services through individuals or groups such as: School Based Youth Health Nurse; Guidance Officer; Chaplain; Wallumbilla Rural Health Service; Maranoa Regional Council; training organisations such as Busy at Work; SQIT.
  • The school actively encourages parent participation through sports and music programs – students benefit from this through enhanced opportunities and positive role modelling.
