Learning Carts, Shows & Demonstrations

You’re job in Space Odyssey is to have fun teaching space science to visitors using various stations, demonstrations and shows. You can learn most of the stations in the exhibit from your team mates or floor staff. If you want to learn a show, or assist the Astronaut On the Surface, those can be learned from the floor staff*, just let us know what you want to learn and we’ll get you set. If you have questions, please ask your Guide Captain, team members, floor staff or coordinator. Now, please read below for more details on how you can get started inspiring our museum guests in Space Odyssey!

Here’s how to learn a station or demonstration (demo):

  1. Pick what you want to learn.Examples of the above are Meteorites, GPS, Spectroscopy, Orbits Table, Vacuum Chamber. You can learn about these from an evening training or by observing your team mates or from a staff person. Either way, you always want to read the training manual that pertains to that station/demo. Check the Galaxy Guide Portal Training page to find the specific training manual. If you want to learn a show, like Mission: Superchill, ask a floor staff person, or your coordinator.
  2. Tell your Guide Captain what you’re interested in learning. If you don’t have a Guide Captain on your shift, ask a team member, floor staff personnel or your volunteer coordinator. If there is no one on your shift who is able to teach it to you, talk to one of the floor staff, or your volunteer coordinator.
  3. Read the Training Manual section associated with that station or demo. Make sure you learn the important facts, and strive to be accurate, there’s no need to be “an expert.”
  4. Be familiar with other Galaxy Guide Portal resources for the station/demo.
  5. Observe/assist it being done by someone who already knows it.
  6. Practice going through the main talking points at least a couple times, or until you feel comfortable with the basic facts. If you need to, review the Galaxy Guide Portal information and training manual associated with it.
  7. Now try it with visitors while your Guide Captain or a staff person observes and get their feedback.
