Programs set for Aug. 14 and 21 at Kennedy Library in Muncie
YORKTOWN – Senior Care Services is a new member of the LifeStream portfolio of programs to help individuals, families and caregivers navigate through the often confusing world of providing extra support and care for their aging loved ones or those in their families who have disabilities.
LifeStream is the Aging and Disability Resource Center for East Central Indiana. The agency helps people in Delaware, Blackford, Grant, Madison, Henry, Randolph and Jay counties with independent living solutions.
Ean Taylor, senior care advisor, will talk about the new Senior Care Services during two public sessions planned for August at Kennedy Library in Muncie. The program is scheduled for 1-2 p.m. Aug. 14 and will be repeated 6:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 21.
He will talk about the various options with Senior Care Services. A senior care advisor, he explained, is a guide, advocate and coordinator for individuals and their families to arrange for home- and community-based services. Advisors provide a close, accessible person and are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help those dealing with often difficult situations.
The program includes an array of services that can be tailored to fit each individual’s needs. For example, he said, one person might need homemaker help or a comprehensive assessment while another might need crisis intervention when an individual or family is facing aging and disability concerns.
The senior care advisor works with screening, arranging and monitoring in-home and community-based services as indicated by an individualized service plan.
“We can also assist someone in making that transition from home to another setting or vice versa,” he said.
LifeStream’s new Senior Care Services division specifically works with those who can privately pay or provide co-pay for supports and services for those who need extra help to remain independent.
“We have a high level of experience and knowledge to help aging adults, people with disabilities and their families who do not know where to turn when they need services and programs to help them or their loved ones,” said Kenneth D. Adkins, president / CEO of LifeStream. “We are extending that expertise to a new group of individuals who are often overwhelmed with the responsibility of caring for their loved ones but do not know where to start to set up home- and community-based services. We also help those in nursing facilities or hospitals make the transition back home and assist those who need experienced support when having to admit their loved ones to nursing facilities.”
LifeStream, he said, has been helping families since 1975. Last year the agency touched the lives of almost 30,000 people in need.
The agency’s mission is to improve the quality of life for people at risk of losing their independence. Services include care management, transportation, in-home care, Senior Cafes and home-delivered meal programs, guardianships, caregiver support, information and assistance, housing, volunteer opportunities and more.
