The Faculty has 4 departments: Linguistics, Literature, History, and Geography. Within this faculty, there is the Section of Scientific Albanological Studies. In this faculty teach 35 full-time faculty members and 6 outsiders; among whom 5 are Professors, 10 Assistant Professors, 5 Ph. D.-s, and 21 other faculty members.
After completing the studies here, at this Faculty, the following diplomas are issued: “Teacher of History and Geography,” “Teacher of the Albanian Language and Literature.”

SOCIOLOGY
Dr. Tonin gjuraj
The subject of sociology aims at assimilating substantial sociological knowledge, concepts, and research techniques. In this discipline students learn sociological concepts, the functioning of social institutions, and aspects of change and development. Viewpoints within sociology: the functionalist viewpoint, the conflict viewpoint, the symbolic interaction viewpoint and structuralism viewpoint cover an essential part of it. Culture, society, and social change constitute important topics to be discussed. One could not understand sociology without elaborating issues that are related to socialization, deviance, crime, types of interaction, the concept group, organization, role, etc. Social institutions: family, education, religion, political order, the economy, and mass media.

INTRODUCTION to literature

This course covers all the problems that have to do with the introduction to the science of literature. We teach literature as an art of the word with its nomination and significance. At the same time attention is paid to the science of literature and to the fields of theoretical problems of literature, together with language, poetics, and linguistics. We analyze the structure and the composition of the literary work based on the classification of literature, literary principles, genres and types. Prose, poetry and drama are treated at a wider scale, together with written and oral literatures. Style is also part of the course. A special place is taken by the notion of imagery, its variants, meter, versification, line types, rhymes, stanzas and free verse.
INTROduction to linguistics

This subject falls into three parts. The first part treats of the theoretical problems of linguistics, the origin of the language and its respective theories; problems of the ratio language-speaking-discourse and language-thinking; the system and the structure in the language, the influence of the linguistic and extra-linguistic factors on language development and language change. The second part deals with questions of phonetics and phonology; the three aspects of the study of the sound: acoustic, physiologic and functional aspects; questions of the area of lexicology where general issues of the semantic field of language study have been involved. The third part focuses on grammatical structures and grammatical abstraction: morphology and syntax, general knowledge on grammatical units, categories, means and parts of speech.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE, I, II

Its syllabus is based on the knowledge of English acquired by students at high school. It aims at the improvement and of the students’ four aspects of acquisition: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Topics on British civilization are treated through short illustrated texts; exercises, discussion topics and other activities provide possibilities for the students to work individually and in groups. The workbook enables them to reinforce the language acquired during the explanation and practice of the lesson. The students’ final assessment is done by two written examinations at the end of each year and continuous assessment of class participation.
FRENCH LANGUAGE, I, II

This subject involves the four skills of learning French: reading, writing, speaking and listening. Topics on French civilization, typical aspects of French style of life, the origin of the French people and state. The use of French in different countries, Feasts, Education, Construction, French food, Literary trends, Administrative divisions. Grammar topics: The article. The noun, the adjective (qualifying, pronominal, indicative, numeral, indefinites). The personal pronoun, the preposition, the verb (groups, voice, mood, tense). Direct and indirect speech. Assessment: Regular attendance is a requirement of the course. Final written examination.
Latin language
Evalda paci
The syllabus contains basic knowledge of the Latin phonetics, the morphology of all the parts of speech and the grammar. Mainly we concentrate on the simple sentence and on phrasal units. The authors that are cited here in this mainly grammatical context come from the classical period and are: Cicero, Virgil, Caesar, Ovid, Katuli, Horace. Here we also treat the problem of the Latin language as an Indo-European language.

This course aims at equipping the students with sport knowledge, education and culture, to keep up in good health and to develop good physical features. The syllabus of this course is composed according to the abilities and desires of the students and as such it is adaptable for different student groups. It includes such sports as volleyball, basketball, athletics, tennis, aerobics, fitness, gymnastics, fast-moving games and popular traditional games.
Phonetique of the Albanian language

This subject focuses on questions of the Albanian phonetics. It primarily treats theoretical issues; it determines the object of the subject and its relation to the other language disciplines. It offers some current definitions about the phoneme by making the distinction between speech sounds and graphemes; it describes the physiological apparatus of human sound production by dividing speech sounds into vowel and consonant sound. It determines the three aspects of the speech sound study. It provides the students with the criteria of speech sound classification. It deals with the distinction between diphthong and vowel-sound group, phonetic transformations occurring in a language, reasons of these transformations and supra-segmentals (stress and intonation) as prosodic units. Finally, it focuses on questions of pronunciation and the basic principles of spelling rules of the Albanian language.

Folklore

The course of Folklore dwells on the Albanian Folklore that constitutes the first detailed layer of the Albanian cultural and literary heritage fills in considerable gap of the Albanian cultural existence, once considering the late date of evidence in Albanian. Literary critics. This course does credit to our early cultural heritage as evidenced by our rich oral literature that did not lag behind the Balkan and European oral literature with reference to its early existence, variety and originality. Of primary importance are considered: oral lyrics, epics, legendary epics, kreshniks’ ballads, historical epics and pop prose.
Text Linguistics

The course of the speeches of this discipline contains the way that this branch of linguistics has followed to go on, on its own, from the year 1970 to nowadays. This discipline treats problems of the act of communication, language functions and passes on to the knowledge about the linguistic texture, its structure and coherent and cohesive characteristics. A particular attention is dedicated to the elision, methods of substitution, intertextualisation as well as presumption, based in various plans. The content of the lectures has belongings of various linguistic schools, as regards the contextual typology, Austrian-German school, Anglo-Saxon school, Latin and Russian school. A large part of study is dedicated to the poetical texture, from the special syntax, the particular phenomena and the phonic-sound character. All the issues are considered by a linguistic point of view.
MORPHOLOGY OF THE ALBANIAN LANGUAGE

`The programme of this subject intends that the student get to know the morphological structure of the Albanian language. In conceptualisation of this programme are included: morphological structure of the word and types of word-formation lexical and grammatical categories-parts of speech for defining them the problem of locutions, description of characteristics and grammatical categories of the changeable parts of speech, description of the unchangeable parts of speech, through different topics are given theoretical concepts, as well as solution for some descussable problems, matters of the norm are also treated.

Theory of literature

It is a theoretical course which deals with the way a literary work exists. We consider the relations of literature with biography, psychology, with the social life, with ideas and other arts. We also evaluate literature through style and different types of figures. The rest of the course presents the theories of literary interpretation through the interest on the text (New Criticism, Symbolism, Russian Formalism, and Structuralism) and through the interest on the part of the reader (Semiotics, The Theory of Reception).

Literature of independencce

This course starts first with the historical and social conditions of the period of independence (1912-1939) and the development of literature in this timeframe, looking at it as a natural development through its periods. Then, by relying on the literary contribution of the most famous personalities like Noli, Nikaj, Prennushi, Fishta, Konica, Poradeci, Kuteli, Spasse, Koliqi, Migjeniand so on, we embrace the dynamics of this period together with its genuine and marked features. In the lectures and seminars (20+13) we identify the points of touch and divergence of the writers among themselves, and with those of Renaissance. The lectures and seminars are held during the fourth semester and the final written exam is given at the end of this term.
Dialectology of the Albanian Language

This discipline contains 15 lectures which have as an object the description in linguistic levels: phonetics, lexicon, morphology and word-formation of the two main dialects of the Albanian language, and the different speakings, seen in the synchronic realms. Through the exercise session, audio-visual means, and practice, the students will be able to make out the features of the different social dialects of the Albanian language, in relation to its modern standard.
TEXT ANALYSIS

It is both a practical and theoretical course, and it shapes the students’ knowledge by means of the textures at different levels. The poetical text is seen through the eyes of the author and through the eyes of the underlined reader, and through the symbolic, ideological, stylistic, and linguistic levels. The narrative text is observed through the combinations of the direct and indirect speech. The theatrical, cinematographic and essay texts professionally interpreted.
