LEARN MATHEMATICS BYDOING (GANIT WEEK)

In order to commemorate the 128th birth anniversary of Dr. SriniwasaAiyangarRamanujan of Dr. SriniwasaAiyangarRamanujan on 22nd December, 2015, Sarala Birla Public School celebrated GANIT week from 16.12.2015 to 22.12.2015. There were various activities performed during the Ganit Week. These activities were designed to create interest for maths among students especially for those who have phobia for maths. The only purpose of these activities were to develop a interest among students for Maths and helping them in understanding maths in a playful manner which was very different from the regular classroom studies with chalk and duster. Activities were divided according to the classes. For students of Std. I & made three dimensional clocks with paper plates and ice cream sticks. They changed the hour & minute hand manually to show the correct time. Moving up and down the stairs was practically done to give the concept of ascending and descending order. Coloured steps and wool were used to express division on number line. Class III – V used biodegradable materials to make different solid shapes and geometrical instruments, roman numerals with match sticks, rangoli with geometrical shapes, cards to understand symmetry. All students of class I – V enthusiastically & sportingly participated in different rounds of maths quiz.

A Mathematics Relay race on 16/12/2015 where students were divided in groups of 5-8. A series of questions was prepared by the students and they can only move ahead in the race after solving questions.

Another such event was "Solving Mathematical Puzzles such as solving Rubik's cube and creating magic squares for Std VI to VIII on 17/12/2015 which was yet another interesting way to learn maths. Adding on to the list there was yet another activity which is quite popular among kids as well as grown up. Sudoku and Kakuro which was for Std. VI to Std. XII students on 21/12/2015.

One day of the Ganit week was for quiz competition for each grade based on the various topics related to Mathematics on 19/12/2015. The last day of the week saw students of different grades i.e. from Std. I to XII displaying innovative projects on mathematics such as the Golden Ratio.

The week was finally conducted with an exhibition of all projects and activities taken up.

The school will be organizing Interactive session on Mathematics in the first week of January where Mr. K.C. Prasad Co-Ordinator of IMO conducted by HomiBhabha Research Centre will be interacting with students of std IX to XII on various topics related to Maths.
