Content:
/ All Year 9 pupils will complete 3 different units of work which will develop to their creativity, understanding and experience of art in 2-D and 3-D
Theme 1: Animal Portraiture… drawing, painting & 3D ceramics
Theme 2: World Cultures… Exploring drawing and painting, Creating a semi rigid outcome using paper. Extension ICT graphic exercise.
Theme 3: Contextual explorations of the work of an Artist … Research, fine art painting and textile embroidery
  • Further develop their core skills in how they can use and manipulate pencils and paint to create shape, form, tone, tints, colours and textures of different objects.
  • Understand and experiment within the areas of Fine Art and Design in 2 and 3 Dimensions. Ceramics and semi rigid materials.
  • Learn about and understand specialist language linked to Art.
  • Explore and Examine the Art work of different Cultures and Artists.
  • Explore and Experiment with the Photo shop programme.

Skills they will be developing: / Pupils will be given the opportunity to acquire, develop & demonstrate …
  • core skills in the area of observational drawing and painting.
  • construction skills through the use of hand built ceramic and the use of semi rigid construction materials.
  • textile skills through the use of hand, machine and or batik printing.
  • development and enhancement of Presentation skills, Literacy & Numeracy skills.

How they will be assessed: / Pupils will be assessed on …
  • how well they have used pencils, paint, textiles processes, ICT semi rigid and clay construction techniques in a creative manner to produce a skilful outcome in 2 and 3 dimensions.
  • how well they present/exhibit their work.
  • what they have understood/ learnt about tone, shape, form, texture, colour, the culture(s) or Artists they have explored.
  • their understanding and use of specialist artist language.
  • their ability to listen and act on verbal instructions.
  • their ability to discuss what they have produced.
  • their ability to self-evaluate their individual responses

How you can help: /
  • Provide your son/daughter with the proper art equipment & materials. Encourage your child to always try their very best.
  • Check and countersign your child’s homework and class work to ensure a good standard of work is maintained.
  • Ensure your son/daughter always arrives to class with their art folder and drawing and painting equipment.
  • Encourage your son/daughter to look after and be responsible for their art materials, equipment and art folder.
  • Ensure your son/ daughter does spend the required amount of time on homework - approx 1hour in KS3 per week.
  • Encourage your child to take extra time and extra care over the presentation of their work.
  • Ensure your son/daughter meets the assessment deadlines at Halloween, Easter, Christmas and Summer.
