LEANDER LIBRARY FOUNDATION BOARD MEETING

TUESDAY,17May 2016

President Gary Anderson called the meeting to order at 6:35pm. Board members present were Dianne Hess, Julie Kimball, Melissa Durham, Dan Michie, Janice Murdoch, and Stina Hill. Also present were Steve Bosak, Priscilla Donovan, and April Warner, Carol North’s daughter. Minutes from the Aprilmeeting were approved.

Financial Report:

The Foundation received a total of $110 bringing the account balance to $4,213.45. One hundred came from the book store. Steve reported $2,883.95 in the Utility account. Financial Report Approved.

Bookstore Operations:

The bookstore was open 24 days in March and brought in $85.50. In April, it was opened for 18 days. Steve will send Robert over to fix popcorn machine. Janice has been giving out free popcorn to more people, increasing the number of patrons. People are coming in. Even if they’re not buying books, people are becoming aware of the bookstore’s existence. The AC is currently broken in the bookstore.

Carol North Donation:

The petition to rename the story time room to the Carol North Story Time Room is in the process of having the signatures verified. Once verified, Steve will get it on the agenda for the City Council Meeting either on June 2nd or June 16th. July 16th will be the date for the Dedication Ceremony, as Carol’s family will be in town that weekend. Alice Warner presented a check to the library for $9,125. She also informed the board to look forward to a significant book donation.

Promotion & Fundraising:

Winners of the monthly drawings were: Becca Kee in April and Kathleen Davis for May.

Additional Comments:

The library received a $500 grant from Humanities Texas for a lecture on “Conserving Family Treasures” June 25th @ 1:30pm in the Betty Brown Room. Stina is planning on using Mail Chimp for electronic mailers. Stina will also begin managing the Foundation’s email: . The event at A+ FCU went well. Dan will donate his table to the foundation. The board approved buying a table cloth with Leander Library Foundation printed on it for use at future events. The website it getting 228 hits a month. Melissa got a box of children’s books from Half-Price books to give out for free to patrons of the bookstore.
