Position Description

Pack Leaders assist the Leadership Center with New Student Registration, Camp A-State, Preview Days, and other special events as needed. This group of student leaders assists new students and their families/guests make a smooth transition to A-State as well as planning and facilitating the Camp A-State program. In addition, the Pack Leaders work closely with the Leadership Center staff to represent campus engagement opportunities at Preview Days, campus tours, and other special events throughout the year.

Duties and Responsibilities

·  Act as a positive representative of A-State.

·  Welcome new students and guests to A-State.

·  Teach new students A-State History & Traditions.

·  Assist in creating short informative videos about life at A-State (videography skills NOT required).

·  Explain academic opportunities, responsibilities, and procedures.

·  Lead campus tours and highlight various aspects of campus life and services.

·  Serve as a point of contact for students.

·  Explain online procedures to students such as the schedule of classes, course availability, registration, etc.

·  Plan, facilitate, and implement all aspects of the Camp A-State overnight extended Orientation program during the summer.

·  Assist with all aspects of New Student Registration sessions, including but not limited to: creating participant folders, greeting guests, check-in during program days, lifting boxes, transporting materials around campus, moving chairs and tables, etc.

Characteristics of Pack Leaders

·  Display strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills and the potential to develop these skills.

·  Have a positive attitude, enthusiasm, & passion for A-State.

·  Willingness to work with a diverse group of people and emphasize the importance of first year campus, academic, and/or community co-curricular involvement.

·  Desire to take initiative, motivate/help others, have strong sense of responsibility, and have fun.

·  Adhere to a strong code of ethics at all times.

·  Exhibit leadership potential & willingness to develop leadership skills further.

·  Demonstrate punctuality and professionalism.

Qualifications and Requirements of Pack Leaders

·  Have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA as a continuing A-State student (including transfer work), and MUST maintain a 2.75 or higher GPA while serving as a Pack Leader.

·  Have completed 25 credit hours by May 2018 and be enrolled in at least 12 credits for Spring 2018.

·  Must have a minimum of one semester of school left upon the completion of the 2018 New Student Registration season.

·  Must remain in good academic and judicial standing with the University throughout the tenure in the position, not violate the Student Code of Conduct, and conduct yourself in an appropriate manner both in person and electronically via the Internet (email, Facebook, Twitter, Vine, Instagram, etc).

·  Attend the Pack Leader Training Sessions scheduled from 3-5p on the following dates. Pack Leaders have the option to enroll in UC 3012 (2 credit hours). Regardless of course registration, attendance is MANDATORY.

·  Participate and attend all aspects of scheduled training sessions, retreat, New Student Registration Sessions, Camp A-State and optional events in which the Pack Leader indicates participation.

Salary & Benefits

·  While the Pack Leader experience is an extremely rewarding leadership opportunity, it is not a position you should seek out for money. All payment information will be finalized and provided in the Pack Leader contract provided in January.

·  Required t-shirts to wear during Leadership Center events are provided.

·  Required bottoms (khaki, black, red, or other approved color) are not provided and must be approved by Leadership Center staff.

·  Meals during New Student Registration & Camp A-State will be provided.

·  Develop leadership, interpersonal communication, and social skills.

·  Contact with A-State administrators, faculty, staff, and other students.

·  Gain significant leadership experience while enhancing your opportunities for campus involvement, employment marketability, and career opportunities.

·  It is important to understand that housing during the summer will not be provided outside of the Camp A-State dates. Please note if you are not able to make arrangements the night prior to New Student Registration to stay in or around Jonesboro for the NSR dates, you may want to consider not applying for this position.

Required Pack Leader Date Commitments (all dates will be finalized in January):

April 9, 2018, May 23, 2018, June 4, 2018, June 11, 2018, June 18, 2018, June 25, 2018, July 16, 2018, July 26, 2018, August 6, 2018

Retreat Date to be scheduled for two days in May, and you will be notified at the start of the semester exact dates.

Camp A-State is scheduled in August. Exact dates will be provided during the Spring 2018 semester.

Application Process

·  Paper Application – Completed application, resume, and references, must be turned in no later than 4:00p on Friday, November 17, 2017.

§  List of References: include name, contact information, employment title and relationship to you. Leadership Center staff will contact individuals for further information.

·  Individual Interviews –After review of the written application, selected students will be notified by November 28, 2017 via the A-State student email account to participate in an interview. Interviews will be conducted on December 1, 2017.
