Job title: Lead Gardening Tutor – Urban Green, Cranhill
Salary:£425 per week (PAYE including holiday pay) 5 days per week delivery
Based at: Cranhill, Glasgow
Travel: Travelling within Glasgow and occasionally further afield as we have office bases in Ayrshire and Edinburgh, with reimbursement of agreed reasonable travel expenses
Reporting to: Programme Manager
Duration of contract: 48 weeks between May2015 and March 2016 (please note no delivery between 24th December 2015 and 4th January 2016)
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 5 from 7 days. The post holder should be
prepared to work outside normal office working hours, including evenings and weekends if necessary
Other Essentials: Subject to PVG | Disclosure Scotland checkSCQF level 9 in Landscape Design or related discipline. At least 2 years experience in delivering creative activity in diverse community settings.
Desirable – qualification in Community Arts / Community Learning and Development

Background
Urban Green: Cranhill Food Growing Project is an exciting and innovative programme that aims to transform an underused piece of ground in to a community garden. You will work as part of a team to transform the space, work with local young people and groups to make the project sustainable post March 2016.
This is a partnership project between Thenue Housing Association and Impact Arts and is funded through the Climate Challenge Fund.
The Project Outcomes are as follows:
- Increased knowledge of food production
- increased consumption of locally grown, healthy, low carbon food
- increased energy efficiency awareness
- reduced contribution to landfill
- improved mental & physical health amongst local people
- increased employability of local young people
- increased community awareness of climate change and commitment to minimizing environmental impact
These outcomes will be achieved through the delivery of key projects over the duration of the programme including:
- 2 programmes for people currently unemployed aged 16-24 based on Impact Arts successful Creative Pathways programme
- Community food growing workshops 2 days per week for 9 months for the wider Cranhill community
- Food growing sites will use recycled materials to divert materials from landfill including a creation of artworks
- Creation of composting site to reduce carbon emissions of vegetable waste going to landfill
Purpose:
Your role is to design and deliver a high quality and structured programme, in line with the project objectives.
You will lead and support a group of up to 15 unemployed young people to create food growing sites in the community.
You will be teaching skills in gardening, landscaping, food growing, and other subject areas as suited to your skill base.
You must have the ability to work with challenging groups and an understanding of the barriers facing young people in gaining and sustaining employment.
Main Responsibilities:
- To design, plan, organise and deliver Urban Green Cranhill on time and on budget, effectively managing resources alongside the Environmental Artist Lead tutor , Project Co-ordinator and Project Manager
- To effectively engage with participants on project, facilitating simultaneously the creative process and personal / community learning and development
- To ensure that Urban Green is managed to achieve both Carbon reduction and social success
- To successfully engage with local community stakeholders, developing the project and embedding it into the local community
- To develop strong positive relationships with local partner organisations and contractors
- To document project through a variety of means, taking photographs and evaluating the project with the participants, producing statistics, case studies and other reports
- To lead on the continuous improvement of Urban Green, ensuring consistency of approach and maximising potential
- To monitor the project budget, ensuring spend is kept with income limits
- To ensure risk assessment and health and safety policies are followed
- To assist in the marketing of the project
- To represent Urban Green Cranhill at events
- To participate in training, meetings and events as required
- To support and promote Urban Green Cranhill
- To carry out any other duties appropriate to the post
