Le Portfolio de Français IIMr. Andrew Kessel

Throughout the semester you will be completing assignments for your online portfolio to document and record your progress in French. For those students who had French 1 with me this will be familiar as we will be adding to last year’s work while new students may be starting a fresh portfolio to keep in future years and throughout your progress in French. This semester we will be focusing on fewer assignments with more feedback, revisions, and opportunities for improvement on your final grade. Portfolio work will be completed during class about once a week (at least two times/unit) for at least 45 min. where you will be able to work with the help of your peers and teacher. The requirements are as follows:

  • At least 1 of the assignments must be completed per unit
  • Overall you must complete 2 written portfolio assignments + one final letter
  • You will also complete 4 oral (audio/video) portfolio assignments including 2 interpersonal (with different partners) and 2 presentational formats.
  • Due dates to be announced - here are the choices:

Unité I

Study Abroad Program:You are applying to a study abroad program in a target language country. As part of your application process you will need to prepare an introduction.

Unité II

Study Abroad Program: You have been accepted to your study abroad program but you want to do some research on what your daily life in a target language country will entail. Luckily the program has provided you with a student contact from your county. You need to write a letter describing your daily life (school, routines, and celebrations) and asking your target language friend questions about her/his life. Your letter should include an introduction (name, age, origin/nationality, and place of residence), body paragraph (daily life), and conclusion (questions).

Audio/Video: Make a YouTube video, Flip Book, Triller, or Photostory of your partner’s daily routine. Describe your partner’s morning, afternoon, evening, or entire daily routine while they describe yours. Aim for a video of about 2-3 minutes using only French (in the 3rd person) and no notes. Ask questions and use words of sequence while using reflexive verbs and non-reflexives to describe what they actually do in an average day. You may choose your partner but it must be someone you have not worked with yet in class. If you do not have the ability to make a video you may prepare or stage an audio alternative – i.e. an online chat with a classmate where you each must ask and answer questions about your daily routine.

Assessment 2:

Prepare and present a skit to the class about roommates shopping for toiletries.
