COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The First-Year Advisement Seminar enables students to plan their academic careers while also encouraging them to explore their scholarly interests, to define their needs and talents, and to increase their awareness of, and commitment to, the mission statement of Le Moyne College. In addition to meeting with their first year advisor, students will also participate in a 3-session “short course” designed around various topics, from life skills issues to current events to academically oriented topics. This seminar assists students in developing the skills necessary to make valuable decisions throughout their academic career and in their transition to college.

COURSE GOALS:

1.  To provide learning opportunities that will enable first-year students to acquire the knowledge and skills to become increasingly self-sufficient with regard to planning and executing a program of study that leads to graduation in the desired major.

2.  To provide first-year students an extended orientation to the campus, its resources, and to themselves as learners; and familiarize all students with the essential academic skills necessary for success in the world of higher education and beyond.

3.  To provide students with a sense of what it means to be a part of the Le Moyne community and our greater global communities, particularly with regard to the College's shared mission of learning and service.

4.  To provide students with opportunities to commence the development of a career plan.
