LCMS June 2014 Good News Report

All NLES & SLES 6th graders attended our ILP parent review reward party on May 23. We had a fantastic time, and it proved to be a great transition activity. Dr. Brad Henson provided the music; LCMS PTSO provided drinks, popcorn, and snacks. Mr. Mott provided cotton candy and snow cones.

On May 29, LCMS students showed their leadership, creativity, and communication skills as they helped transition sixth graders to the middle school. They took them on tours of the school, answered questions, created a dress code fashion show, and designed club recruitment materials and presentations. It was a very positive, informative experience. The sixth graders were very attentive, well behaved, and asked great questions; Ms. Doom organized an efficient, helpful event.

June 16-23 is our Summer Jump Start Camp. The purpose of this camp is easing the transition from elementary to middle school for our incoming 7th graders. The camp will occur from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM. We hope that this camp (coupled with the tours and ILP party) will excite our new students about learning at LCMS.

On May 28, students participated in a Wellness Day. They designed t-shirts, role played, and visited stations that helped them learn to stay “Above the Influence;” they participated in a color run and learned about various careers. We appreciate all of the community stakeholders who helped us make this event so successful.

LCMS staff had the best April attendance in our district.

On August 5, teachers are planning Home Visits from 1-4 PM and Open House from 5-8 PM.

LCMS is working to increase parent involvement. We are encouraging parents to attend the Governor’s Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership (CIPL) which is part of the Prichard Committee. We also post and tweet KDE’s ParentInfo newsletters. On June 6, we will mail home information to parents (invitations to open house, Jump Start, Title I meeting, and conferences; supply list; dress code; health requirements; etc.). We have uploaded information to our website and social media to help keep parents informed and involved.

LCMS is very proud to announce that Emily Owens received one of only sixteen KMSA college scholarships that were awarded in the entire state of Kentucky.

LCMS is very proud of Stephen Ginn. He did a great job teaching his peers about a potential career in firefighting. He even had a bellringer & a learning target for the class. It appears he is also modeling a career as a great teacher. The students really enjoyed his presentation.

LCMS students enjoyed the yearbook signing party on May 27. The students on the yearbook staff and Mrs. Chasity Ray worked very hard. The yearbook was dedicated to Mrs. Alsobrook. Addison Ringstaff and Emily Owens were voted most outstanding students, and Francisco Salazar-Mendoza designed the cover.

The 24 students who met their three individual SMART goals for the year were rewarded with a field trip on May 24 to Six Flags St. Louis. They reported that they had an awesome time.

On May 20, Steve Olsen from Learning 360 trained staff on lesson planning and highly engaging instructional strategies. He shared and modeled examples of rigorous activities.
