“Judge [INSERT NAME] to give Key Note Address at Law Day Luncheon”
Anytown, USA. Tuesday, April 4, 2017. On May 1, 2017, [INSERT NAME] will address the community as keynote speaker at the annual Law Day Kickoff Luncheon. The luncheon will be held at the Main Street Hotel, 5050 Main Street, Anytown, USA.
On May 1 of each year, the Anytown Bar Association hosts a variety of Law Day activities. This year’s Law Day theme is “The Fourteenth Amendment: Transforming American Democracy.”The Fourteenth Amendment, ratified nearly 150 years ago, guarantees the rights of due process and equality under the law. Through this amendment, most of the protections in the Bill of Rights became enforceable against the states for the first time. It also defined citizenship and barred states from denying any citizen the privileges and immunities of citizenship. This year’s Law Day theme provides an opportunity to explore how the Fourteenth Amendment has transformed American law and society and furthered the cause of assuring liberty and justice for all.
In addition to the Kickoff Luncheon, there will be a Dialogue onthe Fourteenth Amendment at the Community Center, 1313High Street, at 7 p.m. on May 1. “The Dialogue will provide a public forum for a discussion on the significance of the Fourteenth Amendment and how it has contributed to our understanding of the rule of law and equality,” said attorney [INSERT NAME], president of the Anytown Bar Association.
During that day, and the rest of the week, there will be Law Day activities at various venues, including Main Elementary School, Central High School and Metropolitan Community Center. About Law Day
Law Day is an annual commemoration first held in 1957 when American Bar Association President Charles Rhynes envisioned a special national day to mark our nation’s commitment to the rule of law. The following year, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued the first Law Day Proclamation. Law Day was made official in 1961 when Congress issued a joint resolution designating May 1 as the official date for celebrating Law Day.
