Launching into Indigenous Leadership

Certificate IV in Frontline Management

Welcome to this exciting new program. Over the next 12 months we will work together on a range of leadership and management skills. These skills and your learnings will be set within the cultural framework that is your background and in which you live and work.

The Program

What is the background of this program?

Launching into Indigenous Leadership – Certificate IV in Frontline Management is a joint project between Box Hill Institute and the Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place Ltd and is funded by the Victorian Skills Commission.

The Victorian Skills Commission provides advice to Government and monitors the effectiveness of the post compulsory education and training system. Activities centre on identifying and providing for current and emerging skills required for industry and the community, and on increasing workforce participation opportunities. The Commission works across Government, linking skills development with innovation, industry and regional policies. The focus is on flexibility and innovative responses to a wide range of needs which underpin the Vocational Education and Training system.

The Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place Ltd (MMIGP) is based on the concept of the neighbourhood house and works to address identified needs of the Indigenous community in the Eastern Metropolitan area. MMIGP has endorsed the Launching into Indigenous Leadership project and believes that the partnership in developing and delivering the program will ultimately enhance not only the existing leadership skills in the Indigenous community but will provide the participants with the opportunity to develop the skills needed to become future leaders.

Box Hill Institute has developed the program for Indigenous participants, focusing on leadership skill development, action learning activities and adult learning principles.

The program aims to:

  • initiate and facilitate an industry leadership program for participants
  • pilot the delivery of the leadership program with a group of Indigenous participants
  • assist and support participants at a Certificate IV level to access leadership opportunities and business and industry networking opportunities
  • develop targeted leadership skills in order to assist participants with future leadership opportunities
