Latin I: Course SyllabusMs. Robinette ()

Block2 / Room L202Woodgrove High School 2016-2017

Salvēte! Welcome to Latin II! I hope that this year will provide you with new opportunities to explore the Latin Language and Classical civilizations. If we stick to the following guidelines, this will be an enjoyable year for all of us!

Classroom Expectations:

As in the rest of the school, you are expected to work, honor, and strive in Latin class:

  • Work: work hard inside and outside of class; be well prepared for class
  • Honor: respect yourself, your classmates and the teacher at all times
  • Strive: do your best and learn from your mistakes

Course Materials

You will be expected to bring the following to every class:

  • Pencil or Pen
  • Textbook (Cambridge Latin Course: Unit 2)
  • Three-ring binder (at least 1-inch) with dividers
  • Looseleaf paper
  • Optional: Composition notebook to be left in class

Homework & Daily Preparation

As for any foreign language, it is IMMENSELY important that you practice new concepts and vocabulary at home between classes. Homework will be checked for completion and accuracy every day at the beginning of class, so have it ready when you arrive.

Grading and Late Policy

Grading in this class will consist of 20% practice and 80% mastery. Practice will include graded homework, classwork, and other formative assessments; mastery will include quizzes, tests, and projects. Work that is turned in late (i.e. projects of various sorts) will be penalized.

On the due date:100%

Within two school days:90%

Before end of quarter:50%

After end of quarter:0%

Absences and Make-Up Work

If you must be absent for any reason, the work that you missed will be collected for you in a bin that I will bring to class every day. On the next day that you are inclass, please come to collect your work and begin making up the necessary assignments. You will be responsible for initiating the scheduling of any make-up assessments within one week of your return to school, and for submitting graded make-up work within two school days from your return. Work submitted after those two school days will be counted late, and the procedures listed in the section above will apply.

Retakes

You will be permitted to retake tests and quizzes. In order to take a retake on summative assessments, you must:

  • Have an original grade of less than 90%
  • Schedule the retake with me within one week of getting the assessment back
  • Complete all current assignments before the re-take
  • Make assessment corrections before the re-take. A parent/guardian signature is required on the correction form. The form must be submitted to me prior to the retake.

Students with failing grades on Stage Tests only will also be permitted to complete corrections for partial credit towards their original grade.

Class Website and Vision

I will keep a class website via the Harmony Middle School website at this address:

Please visit this page to find resources and materials for your class, all of my policies on re-takes, homework, grading, etc. and where to find me during the day.
