LaSalle-Peru High School Boys Golf 2014

CUT POLICY

Again this year the LP Golf program will be having tryouts for the golf team. Limiting our team to 16 players allows for our program to feasibly use Oak Ridge Golf Course while providing sufficient assistance for competitive golfers. These numbers also allow the most safety at a multi-team and publicly utilized facility. Freshmen/Sophomore players, since part of the full 16 person squad, must show potential and not be a liability (safety for all and detracting from coaching all) on the practice facility or course.

The season varsity team will consist of the lowest 6-8 scores from the week of qualifying dates, average scores, and coach-enlisted “playoffs” during season practices. Remaining Junior Varsity positions will be filled with Freshmen-Seniors as noted below.

In addition to the qualifying scores, players will be selected by LP Golf experience.

e.g. – If a freshman, sophomore, junior, & senior score equally, the senior(having participated and been a quality participating member of the golf program in the previous years) will be selected for the varsity 2014 season. Equally true, if an upperclassman has not been a quality member of the LP Golf programor has shown little effort in the off-season(integrity, attendance, attitude, etc. issues), the underclassmen will be selected. Telling us about off-season work does not equal showing.

Tryout dates are set and mandatory for selection into the 2014 LP Golf Program. If a player is unable to make the scheduled dates, thenshe/he risks not being part of the program. No alternative dates will be accepted. Players must complete three 9 hole rounds over the span of 5 tryout dates. Due to time restrictions and course usage when school begins, tryout dates are the last week in July. Team will be posted on the LP Golf Web page by 9:00 P.M. on 8/1/14. All tryout participants will receive a call from Coach Gunia or Coach Arbogast.

As the season progresses, the varsity team reserves the right torotate players Fr-Sr as needed and rewarding good scoring consistencyfortravel players. Along with the low scores, players must show quality sportsmanship in their endeavors. Additionally, the “non-varsity” may be in coach-enlisted “playoffs” during season practices; again, this is to impact the team positively resulting in the best 6-8 on varsity and next 6-8 improving skills at the JV level. Players are not confined to JV or V, the previously mentioned determining factors govern levels.

We cannot count on IHSA to confirm the summer schedule at this time so we are staying with that above week as TRYOUTS. If we are allowed to meet until the school year begins, then we’ll use those additional days as voluntary practices and missing due to family commitments will not count against players.

Sincerely,

Randy Gunia, LPHS Golf
