LVPOA Board Meeting Minutes
October 23, 2009 at 0900 hours
The following were in attendance: President, T. Valenzuela; Vice President, E. Fredenburg; Secretary, A. Tremar; Treasurer, S. Edwards; and Representatives K. Gregoire, M. Weyand, C. Plotkin. The meeting was held at the Golden Nugget Casino.
The following items were discussed:
New Business:
Fredenburg brought up for discussion new union board shirts with a new logo or patch. Valenzuelasaid that she would look into the price of the new shirts. Fredenburg will find a business that can make the new patch or logo. Open
Valenzuela the next labor management meeting will be on 10/28/09 at 0700. The board needs to turn in their agenda for the meeting by 10/23/09.
Valenzuela said that Fredenburg and she have a City manager meeting on 10/29/09.
Valenzuela asked the board about the sponsorships this year for teams. The LVPOA has had many requests for union sponsorships submitted for teams. Some of the teams are youths and some are for adults, for this quarter the union will be sponsoring the youth teams only. Closed
Treasurer report: Fredenburg asked about hand out reports at the membership meetings. Valenzuela and Edwards talked about using an overhead projector at the meetings. Both maybe tried at the membership meeting and see what feedback we get from the members. Open
Fredenburg asked about officers that are not union members but want to join. The board discussed and will revisit after bylaw review and revisions in January 2010. It was recommended that if an officer wants to join the LVPOA the officer will have to pay the $100.00 but does not have to pay the back dues. Open
Edwards went to the SNCOPS (Southern Nevada Conference of Police & Sheriffs) meeting and said that SNCOPS will be sending a representative up to Carson Cityto talk with elected officials about the concerns of Southern Nevada police departments.
Valenzuela has a meeting on November 04,2009 with SNCOPS. They will be discussing views on officials, upcoming running officials and the state legislation.
Weyand informed the board that the Informer newsletter is ready for review, and will be released on 10/26/09.
Fredenburg asked the board about implementing community outreach donations for various community programs and for the holidays.The board was in agreement with a charitable donation, Fredenburg is going to do more research. Open
Fredenburg bought up to change the LVPOA membership meeting times. The board agreed to try the new times for one year and see if membership attendance increases. The following are the new dates and times for next year Membership Meetings.
