LANGUAGE IMPROVEMENT COURSES

The British Council will be running a series of week-long language courses in July specifically designed to help teachers improve their level and confidence using the English language. Lessons will be delivered by experienced trainers.

B2 Upper Intermediate

Cost € 150.00 for each 10-hour course.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY COURSES

The world of English teaching is in constant evolution, and this year the British Council will again be offering a valuable chance for teachers to meet and receive input on new methodologies and approaches to teaching from our most experienced teacher trainers. ‘Hot topics’ this year include methodologies for teaching Very Young Learners, and ways of integrating Mobile Technology into lessons aimed at the new ‘Millennium Generation’, and our course offer reflects these along with more long-standing teaching issues. As all our courses are delivered in English, we ask that all participants have at least an intermediate level of English.

METHODOLOGY FOR TEACHING IN SCUOLA MATERNA

This course is aimed at Scuola Materna teachers and will look at a range of ideas that

can be used in the Materna classroom to engage and motivate students. The course will be very practical in nature and sessions will focus on areas such as lesson planning, language presentation and using flashcards, songs and games with large classes.

ACTIVITIES FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING IN SCUOLA MEDIA

This course is aimed at Scuola Media teachers and will look at a range of ideas that can be used in the Media classroom to engage and motivate students. Sessions will be on areas such as classroom management, lesson planning, improving your students’ fluency in English and developing students’ competence in the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking).

USING ICT FOR CLIL: AIMING AT BEST PRACTICE

This four-day course explores the use of Information and Communication Technology to teach through CLIL methodology. Participants will build up a set of tools to enable them to face IT challenges, find suitable websites and materials for lesson planning, produce their own CLIL-type activities, and facilitate their students’ use of technology to increase motivation and autonomy in the classroom. This course is aimed at middle and high school teachers.

TEACHING CREATIVELY IN SCUOLA SUPERIORE

This course is aimed at teachers of Scuola Superiore and will look at a range of ideas that can be used in the Superiore classroom to engage and motivate students. Participants will increase their repertoire of teaching ideas. Sessions will include livening up literature, grammar and language presentation, lesson planning, adapting course book materials and teaching advanced level vocabulary.

PROJECT-BASED LEARNING THROUGH SONGS AND STORIES (MAT/ELEM)

This course is aimed at Scuola Materna and Scuola Elementare teachers, and will look at a range of fun, project-based ideas that can be used to engage and motivate students. The course will be very practical in nature and participants may be asked to take part in some activities!

USING TECHNOLOGY AND ICT IN SCUOLA MEDIA AND SUPERIORE

Today’s student is a fully-fledged member of the ‘Millennium Generation’, and we as teachers need to be aware of the new technologies that have become second nature to him. This course will look at how learning technologies can enhance the way teachers teach, by examining ways of integrating the Internet and Mobile Technologies in and out of class time, as well as practical demonstrations and practice sessions using the IWB (Interactive Whiteboard). The course will be suitable for all teachers with little or no experience of using technologies.

PRACTICAL IDEAS FOR BOOSTING LEARNER AUTONOMY IN SCUOLA SUPERIORE

Developing autonomy requires conscious awareness of the learning process, constant reflection and decision-making on the part of the teacher as well as the student and it should take place both inside and outside the classroom to be effective. This four-day course for Scuola Superiore teachers aims to provide the participants with a range of practical ideas and ready-to-go activities that can help students across different levels of English to develop their competence in speaking, writing, listening and reading.

The course is based on the findings of the British Council Milan 'Learning to Learn' project for teachers and students carried out over the Academic Year 2016/17.

This course is aimed at Scuola Elementare teachers and will look at a range of ideas that

can be used in the Elementare classroom to engage and motivate students. The course will be very practical in nature and sessions will focus on areas such as lesson planning, language presentation and using flashcards, songs and games with large classes.

TEACHING PRONUNCIATION

During this course we will look at the features of English pronunciation which pose problems for Italian learners. We will examine a range of techniques to help students improve their intelligibility and increase their confidence when speaking. The course will be very practical in nature and participants will learn a range of new classroom activities to take into their own teaching environment.

Cost € 150.00 for each 10-hour course.


TKT - CLIL

A 30-hour course lasting ten weeks from September – December 2017 leading to the TKT CLIL Cambridge exam. The course is conducted in English and is aimed at scuola media and superiore teachers of English and/or any other subject with a minimum of B2 level in English. Each session is led by an experienced teacher trainer and covers the basic concepts and techniques needed to implement CLIL methodology in the classroom.

Among the areas covered in the course are:

• Principles of CLIL

• Lesson Planning

• Cognitive and communication skills

• Scaffolding content and language learning

• Adapting materials and resources

• Classroom language

• Support strategies

• Assessment

The course is of a very practical nature, showing ways in which materials can be developed for use in the CLIL classroom. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their own teaching and to try out CLIL techniques for themselves in the contexts they currently work in. The materials used in the course have been developed by British Council teacher trainers and used in many countries around the world.
